That could easily take him out several weeks if not a couple of months or until end of season.   It just sucks because he was the one guy that has been decent all year and much like Jimmy Nelson in β€˜17 of course he gets hurt when he’s performing at a high level.

You have to believe Milwaukee will go out and get another starter now.

3 series left before the trade deadline. Reds, Cubs, A's. This is going to be very interesting to see what Stearns does to add both starting and relief pitching.

They really should go for it. All-in. Is Mark Antanasio all-in? This will cost some $. His team, his call. Investing as much as he has to date, I don't see letting that go to waste without adding an ace and a closer as any kind of plus. They need a real chance to win it all, and the only way that happens is by adding to both positions, now. Pitching wins Championships.

Looking at their recent series win v. AZ, I do like that this team did not quit.  There is something really good going on. Hoping they crank it up.

Lost 3 series in a row to CIN, PIT, SF before bouncing back to take 2 in a row from ATL and now AZ. Dbacks and Braves were both 7-3 heading into each series. Win series, Brewers.

I don't see a path to a playoff run this year, and I'd be looking to be a seller more than a buyer. 2020 is far more likely to net you success than 2019.

I agree, but the Brewers have been in the playoffs 5 times in their 50 year history. When you have a chance, you have to take a swing. There is no guarantee that 2020 is going to be any better. That doesn't mean you trade away Hiura for a #1 starter or anything that drastic, but I don't think they should be sellers.

If you can get to September when the roster expands and we're still in it, CC has already shown he is very good in managing the expanded roster in terms of the pitching staff.

I'll amend my statement slightly. I'd want to get through the Cubs series before making any decisions. You go 6-1 through that stretch and maybe a move presents itself. You go 1-6, and maybe someone blows you away with an offer for Grandal or Davies (I'd have to be REALLY blown away to give away Davies, like better than what we gave up for Greinke blown away) or Jeffress...

I'm guessing the smartest position, and the most likely one from Stearns is to stay the course, and unless something crazy happens either in buying or selling, you wait it out and see if someone is made available on waivers in August, and maybe you make a move then.

I just find it hard to believe that any move they make is enough to get past the Dodgers, so would not want to give up a top 10 prospect for a rental regardless of what happens between now and 7/31

Package Braun and Shaw or Salidino to an AL team for a #2 pitcher with one more year of team control.

Why would a team trade a #2 for anyone in that group? Salidino has 0 trade value.   You’d be selling low on Shaw, and right now he wouldn’t fetch much.  Braun has the most value but is long in the tooth.  A team with playoff aspirations might want Braun but wouldn’t give up a #2 for him. And a team with a #2 available probably isn’t in the market for an aging, high salaried player.

So glad we let Derrick Johnson basically leave for no good reason.  If it’s the money then wow we got outbid by the Reds.  Not the Yankees.  Not the Dodgers.  The Reds.

The Reds have half the talent the Brewers do but that guy is nails with building confidence and extracting the most out of guys.

It’s getting close to selling time
