I can sell more Chevy's if I don't wear a turban. BS excuse. If anything the guy wearing the tie has less sales. Was he dancing around and rubbing it into customers faces? He wore a freakin' tie. It's a bull**** reason.
If I owned the business, I would want the guy fired. One, the guy does not respect the business, or two, he is a moron. Either way, I dont want to employ him. Even if he didnt know about the relationship with the bears. If you deal with the customer face to face, you cant be wearing something that could potentially hurt sales. You stay neutral.

Of course I would find a more legit reason, because I'm not a moron. Plant some porn on his PC or something.

It was a freakin' tie of a sports team. I could see if someone like yourself wore a McDonalds tie to their Burger King asst. manager job but this isn't the case.

In the interviews I heard the Packer tie guy give on two different radio/tv stations, he claimed he thought his boss was kidding the first time he told him to remove the tie. Then went on to say a short time later he was told again and still thought he was kidding. The next time the tie was addressed was in the showroom about an hour later and he was loudly told in front of all employees/customers that he was fired and to get himself and the tie out of the business....with a few f-bombs thrown in for emphasis.
It doesn't have to do with class, it has to do with business. In the retail game, especially in today's economy, you just can't risk alienating customers. Had the Packers lost Sunday, you're telling me you'd be chomping at the bit to break-out your checkbook to buy a car from a dude in Bears' paraphernalia @ a Milwaukee dealership Monday morning?

I've asked employees to cover tatoos, remove piercings and change out of less than professional clothes numerous times. Usually it's no big deal. As others have said, the employee either just didn't care or has zero common sense.

The problem with the idiot boss is...the salesman may have possibly alienated a few customers he came in contact with, but with the way this was handled, an entire fanbase of Packers fans were alienated. I grew up in the sw suburbs close to where this dealership exists, there are a lot of Packer fans in the area.

Fair point. Like I said, I can't hear the video and based my post on the info provided in the thread (i.e., the employee was asked 5 times to remove his tie by the boss, but refused and was subsequently fired).

Its about respecting your employer. It matters not if YOU think the tie might affect a sale or be offensive, it only matters what the CUSTOMER might think.

If you owned a bar in WI, would you allow your employees to wear Bear shirts? I sure hope not, that might have an affect on sales, right?

I dont care how small the risk is, form the employers point of view, its not worth risking revenue so you can fly your team colors. Welcome to the work force, your no longer daddies special little Prince. It's not all about you wittle guy, now lose the ****ing tie and make your new daddy some money.

Yeah the manager is a even bigger bufoon in this situation. He SHOULD know how to handle this.
