I see a wrongful termination suit in the near future

yeah, that ain't gonna end well for the boss.

If he's willing to move to Green Bay I bet a dealership up there would give him a job.

And somebody in the Packer organization should pick up on this and find a way to get the guy to the superbowl.

If you check out the comments in the full article the first comment is from a dealer that had already offered him a job.

They were talking about this on Mike and Mike this am. (LOL at G and G going back and forth about it) I have a feeling that the salesman is going to get his job back ....... if he still wants it.

If they hire him back he should show up in a Cutler Jersey.

Any other profession this would be ridiculous, but I think the manager had a valid point. How many Chevy's do you think you're going to sell to Bears' fans sporting a Packer tie the day after they lost their Super Bowl? Plus the sponsorship of the Bears builds his case a bit.

That said, I'm sure this was done more out of spite than a legitimate concern for the business.

then you tell the employee to change the tie or go home - you don't fire him.

Then have a dress code saying Packer attire is not acceptable. According to M & M the manager was quoted as saying it wouldn't have been a problem had he worn the tie last Saturday.
In the end it may have been a case of bad judgement by the salesman but to fire him over a tie? Seriously? LOL

Good point. Sending him home for the day would have been more appropriate. Either way, the guy ended up with a new job and an early lead on any area Pack fans looking to buy a Chevy.

I can sell more Chevy's if I don't wear a turban. BS excuse. If anything the guy wearing the tie has less sales. Was he dancing around and rubbing it into customers faces? He wore a freakin' tie. It's a bull**** reason.

The guy was already offered and accepted a salesman position at a Chevy Dealer in Homewood. IL. WGN morning news had the Packer tie guy on live this morning along with the boss from this Chevy Dealership and the job deal was presented at that time. Great publicity for the Chevy guy in Homewood! Why would any non-Bear fan ever buy from the Chevy dealership in Oak Lawn?

Did he rock the tie on TV?

Pretty clear this guy hasn't spoken to an uhterknee yet since I saw him blabbing all over the TV this morning with his side of the story. Any aterknee worth his or her salt would tie a gag around this guy's head before he ever got anywhere near a camera.

If I owned the business, I would want the guy fired. One, the guy does not respect the business, or two, he is a moron. Either way, I dont want to employ him. Even if he didnt know about the relationship with the bears. If you deal with the customer face to face, you cant be wearing something that could potentially hurt sales. You stay neutral.

Of course I would find a more legit reason, because I'm not a moron. Plant some porn on his PC or something.

The owner was a douche but the guy was kind of a dumb ass, too. I mean, if your boss asks (tells) you five times (according to the article I read) to do something and you refuse, well, not real smart.

I'm thinking he didn't like his job very much.

It was a freakin' tie of a sports team. I could see if someone like yourself wore a McDonalds tie to their Burger King asst. manager job but this isn't the case.

In the interviews I heard the Packer tie guy give on two different radio/tv stations, he claimed he thought his boss was kidding the first time he told him to remove the tie. Then went on to say a short time later he was told again and still thought he was kidding. The next time the tie was addressed was in the showroom about an hour later and he was loudly told in front of all employees/customers that he was fired and to get himself and the tie out of the business....with a few f-bombs thrown in for emphasis.

I'm not completely up on this story, but I could see how the tie guy could take it as a joke from his boss about taking the tie off.

As for firing the guy....... C'mon Man!!!!!!

It doesn't have to do with class, it has to do with business. In the retail game, especially in today's economy, you just can't risk alienating customers. Had the Packers lost Sunday, you're telling me you'd be chomping at the bit to break-out your checkbook to buy a car from a dude in Bears' paraphernalia @ a Milwaukee dealership Monday morning?

I've asked employees to cover tatoos, remove piercings and change out of less than professional clothes numerous times. Usually it's no big deal. As others have said, the employee either just didn't care or has zero common sense.

Didn't Chevy used to have a plant that made Suburbans in Janesville Wis? Could it be that Chevy dealership sold vehicles that were made by--gulp--Packer fans?

Fair point. Like I said, I can't hear the video and based my post on the info provided in the thread (i.e., the employee was asked 5 times to remove his tie by the boss, but refused and was subsequently fired).

Its about respecting your employer. It matters not if YOU think the tie might affect a sale or be offensive, it only matters what the CUSTOMER might think.

If you owned a bar in WI, would you allow your employees to wear Bear shirts? I sure hope not, that might have an affect on sales, right?

I dont care how small the risk is, form the employers point of view, its not worth risking revenue so you can fly your team colors.
