It's a small NFL sample so far.  We've seen what he can and can't do on a college level but you hope he kind of scratches it out and focuses on leveling up to a pro level.  Rodgers had to change some of his mechanics as well.  Of course most every QB is going to take lumps.

It's the things like Rodgers heady ability or Favre's just sheer guts that makes for a HOFer.  Love has the tools, now he needs the heady guts part.

Taking the lumps is what made those guys great. That and learning from them. The hardest position in pro sports doesn't get an exemption from mettle testing. He will prove he has nads or doesn't pretty quickly when the bullets start flying. It's just as important to provide room to learn as it is to expect results. Let's hope he builds on last night in the next 2 weeks. Benkert as well.

Just caught replay, J Love shows promise, looks like 1st time starter. Funchess looks legit, flashes from Taylor and Sternberger. K Hill had nice quicks on TD, not sure if fumble on him or QB3.
Looks like the lights have finally turned in for Josh Jackson, the exit lights that is. Any trade value? Nice pick from Ento and Burks had blitz sack and good hit. D gave up yards but more FGs than TDS.
Special Teams ah, yeah.
No injuries, right?

I seem to remember Rodgers having one of the highest sack totals in the league his first few years because he held the ball too long.  He seemed to figure it out.  Well, it mostly just turned into sandlot football but at least he wasn't getting gobbled up in the pocket like he was at first.

Yeah, and half the people here bitched constantly about it, while the other half said "How dare you bitch, he's Notfavre!"

NFL put up a bunch of videos of all the "rookie" QB's tape from all the preseason games (rookie in quotes because Love has a video but isn't technically a rookie).

Compared to Fields, Lance, etc, the obvious thing that stands out about Love is his throwing motion (it's so smooth) and the velocity on the ball (has a rocket arm compared to the others).  He's also (so far) a pocket passer.  Many of the other rookies rolled out of the pocket on a lot of plays, which sometimes worked, but mostly didn't.  Most of the rookies held the ball too long on many plays and got sacked a lot in return.

Probably not a fair comparison since it's only one game and Love has had a year to sit in the NFL, but it's pretty obvious from tape that he's certainly ahead of these other new QB's.  Though the rookie QB that impressed me the most was Mac Jones.  He has real command of his game for a rookie.

Yes, here is AR in interview with King  .... I mean where does this guy get off?

"β€œI think because of that experience [in 2020], I got a template for how to have the right perspective on things this year,” Rodgers told King. β€œFor me, it really starts with gratitude. I’m not bitter about anything. I might not agree with some of the decisions that are made or the way things have been carried out. I have a ton of gratitude for this city, and the organization, the opportunities I’ve been given here. That’s what I choose to focus on β€” the things that I do have. That’s a lot of great relationships in the building, an incredible fan base that comes out and watches us every day in training camp. It’s been 16-plus really special years. . . . The future? Who knows what’s going to happen. Right now I’m focusing on how special this moment is and this opportunity is.”

Finally saw the videotapes.

Kaylin Hill, on that TD shows great vision and decision making with his cuts, working the voids.  And then the burst when he saw his alley to the EZ was exciting to see.  One of our top two RB's will miss some time this year or at least need a breather here or there so he should see some snaps.

Dillon looking like a late Franco Harris on the sideline.

Franco Harris - Biography and Facts

Funchess with bunches of grabs.  Could come in real handy this year.

TJ Slaton, moved around a lot on the DL.  Had some trouble but also showed some disruption for his first NFL game.  People have to remember this kid is a rookie and despite the reports from camp, he'll be acclimating all season.

Jackson.  he's pretty good when he's right on a WR but boy he can't stay with a guy to save his life.

Love, nothing to worry about so far.  Should have plenty of time to keep growing.

I'd like to see him get 3 years behind Rodgers.  I have no doubt his decision making will improve but my concern is sometimes a guy just has habits they can't overcome or slip into when under pressure or simply don't have the feel for.

Three years is impossible with the way they have Rodgers' contract set up now. They pushed all that money to 2022 to make it either a trade him or extend him proposal after this season. So we are either going to see Love starting in 2022 or likely never see him starting in Green Bay.

At some point I hope they eliminate all preseason games but might be a tough sell given a lot of vets don’t even play but charging people basically full price to watch that crap doesn’t seem right.

Preseason games haven't been full price for a few years now. At least for the Packers they aren't. But hey, don't let that stop you from rant #4,696 of 2021.

These types of preseason games are really hard to watch.  Basically 80% of the Packers roster playing will not see much action in the regular season.  It’s understandable that you want to get guys reps to see what they can do but holy crap that was some bad football at times.   A spring training MLB game or summer league NBA game might be more entertaining.

By the way, if Josh Jackson looks that bad against scrubs it’s not exactly a good sign for his career in the NFL.  He was absolutely terrible against the Texans.

Also there are a lot of familys that can't afford the regular season Lambeau Packer experience but they can do a preseason game. I've been to both regular and preseason and had a blast at both.  One of the best games I attended was the 1999 preseason game at Camp Randall vs. Denver.   That was the rookie years of Edwards, Vinson and McKenzie.  After watching that game it was easy to see McKenzie was the best iof the 3.   we also got to see De'Momd Parker and some 7tth round draft choice named  Donald Driver. I wonder what ever happened to him?

So get off your high horse and let people be able to enjoy what they want to attend.

Any time at Lambeau is special. I've been to Family Night more times than I've been to games. And it's always been great. In fact, my first trip(1996) I took alone just to check off a bucket list item that my late father never got to do. I had no idea Family Night even existed until I was told by a fellow parking lot straggler that it would be the next day and it was FREE. Truly surreal and an incredible experience. The scrimmage ended with a chorus of "Super Bowl" and they went out and got it done on the bayou. I believe the attendance that year was around 55.000 and if I remember correctly it wasn't even dubbed Family Night at that point.

I’ve done the whole Family Night thing and preseason and obviously regular season games.   And playoff games.

It can be fun no question about it, with games that count obviously meaning a lot more in the grand scheme of things.

Family Nights have been sketchy due to weather events, or at least it seems that way.   Last Saturday was gorgeous from a weather standpoint.   Spent it up north at the family cabin on the lake.

It’s all about how you choose to spend your time and money.   Have at it.  I just prefer to do a lot of other things rather than go to Family Night or preseason games.   Same feeling on late season cold weather games.  Been there done that and just not my cup of tea anymore.

Tailgating itself is an experience that can be a blast.   Taking a stadium tour or Packers HOF is also cool.

For my money, a night game at Camp Randall or a decent Bucks game at Fiserv is a lot more entertaining, but hey, that’s just like my opinion, man.
