Most recent new contracts.

Embiid gets an extension for 4 years and 196 million. He's obviously a great player, but he's only been healthy enough to play in 260 games in 7 years. The Sixers need to figure out the Ben Simmons situation in the next month. I don't see how they can bring him back and you can't piss away a year given that Embiid's feet and back are a ticking time bomb.

Marcus Smart gets 4 years and 77 million. I guess they had to do it, but I'm not sure you can win a title with him. He's a slightly better version of Eric Bledsoe.

Philly is a mess and honestly I donโ€™t see their situation improving much for this upcoming year.

Embiid is a paradox not unlike Karl Anthony Towns.   Both guys are amazing bigs but neither guy has that killer instinct and quite honestly they donโ€™t do the little things to get better.  Making matters worse, Embiid (like AD) is just not reliable from a health standpoint.

The Sixers may be better off dealing Embiid as there is no chance that they get even close to equal value back for Simmons in return.  The Dame for Simmons rumors are laughable BTW.

Whatโ€™s most likely is Simmons returning but heโ€™s burned so many bridges at this point that team may implode.

KAT is a terrible defensive player. Embiid is elite on that end.

Both the Sixers and the Blazers are stuck. The Blazers can't trade Lillard for Simmons without setting their fanbase on fire. I don't care how good Simmons is on defense.

The Sixers will want Lillard for Simmons. If that happens, they are a legit title contender. Lillard's defensive liabilities are hidden by Embiid and others.

The Blazers will want Simmons for McCollum. If that happens, they vault towards the top of the West. Simmons doesn't need to score there with Lillard on board.

There aren't a lot of other options due to the salaries involved. Neither team can really afford to stay status quo.

I guess you could get a third team involved, but nothing happens unless Lillard announces he wants out.

Back in '89 I flew from Austin to a conference in Chicago. An engineer fresh out of college was in our group. Really highly recruited, top 1% of his class - smart guy. Anywho, he'd never been out of Texas his whole life... as we made our approach to O'Hare and looped out over the big pond, he commented, "I didn't know Chicaco was on the coast".

With Rondo the Lakers 2021-22 roster now has 10 guys that are likely to get playoff minutes (age at the time of the 2022 NBA Finals next June)

Lebron (37), Carmelo (37), M. Gasol (37), Ariza (37), Howard (36), Rondo (36), Ellington (34), Westbrook (33), Bazemore (32), AD (29).

6 of those guys were on one of the All-NBA teams in 2012 or 2013 (LeBron, Carmelo, Howard, Westbrook, M. Gasol, and Rondo).
