It will be interesting if Manfred ever does another interview without having all the questions in advance. It's too early to tell how good he'll be as a commissioner long term, but the Marlins situation is ugly right now.

Goodell would have probably faked a seizure to end the interview. Goodell sucks (but mostly because many of the owners are genuinely awful people and Goodell is willing to be their fall guy).

On the other hand, Adam Silver would have had an extended conversation. The NBA has some problems to overcome with players consolidating on a handful of teams, but Silver has done a great job working with the players. The NBA has reworked the schedule to reduce the back to backs and the game probably has a better flow to it than ever. The league has very few teams that are completely unwatchable (unlike the NFL). The only major problem is that everyone knows the Warriors, Rockets, Cavs, or Celtics are going to win the title before the season starts. Although I'll admit I love watching the Warriors play even though they have about a 95% chance of winning the title.

There’s a part of me that thinks it’s a bit unseemly to put a high ranking guy on the show to whack him around like a piΓ±ata for style points to your fan base. Manfred is no saint and the questions are relevant to a point, but a lot of what he’s β€œgrilling” Manfred on is negative assumptions on past experiences.

they needed to be blown up. The Marlins were 77-45 with a $300m MVP player on the roster. Their farm system Until last year was a joke. Now they’re working on it. Taking out their frustrations because of past issues seems kinda douchey to me...

If you are Miami what else are you supposed to do?  Their pitching sucks and they weren't going anywhere even with the  reigning MVP on their roster.  They need to  do a complete tear down in order to improve over the long haul.

My other issue is it's not like South Florida is a hotbed for passionate or loyal fan support.  They have some of the most fair weathered fans in the nation so get over it Lebatard.

That being said, I do wonder how it is that a former Yankees great (Jeter) basically gave him away to the NYY without getting much back in return?   That's the piece that seems suspicious.
