I don't see him making it as a corner at the NFL level. He's giving away too much size.

His skill set makes him an interesting ST weapon though. If he's able to show he can make plays on punts and KO's like Bush has done, he might add more value than Bush does for GB based on his ability to step in and be the KO and punt return guy as well. The singular skill he has that will translate in the NFL is as a return guy. He's a playmaker in the return game that takes the injury risk away from Cobb and Ross. And while I like the flashes that Ross has shown in returns, If Jennings departs it would be tough to see a young WR lost to a ST injury.

No idea if he's as capable of coverage in the kicking game as Bush has been. But if he's close (his agressiveness may be a huge plus here) and he's able to handle all return duties, that's adding value without a lot of risk.
He's going to be in same boat as Vontaze Burfict. Burfict was a first round talent who went undrafted because he was so unpredictable. Mathieu is ridiculously unpredictable. Like I said in another thread, the boom is a Cortland Finnegan/Antoine Winfield like scrapper and the bust is Pacman Jones. If he's undrafted I would definitely bring him in, but his skills are not THAT exceptional that he's worth wasting a draft pick.
uh oh LSU... well, then again, it is the NCAA... probably nothing to worry about.

quote:
An assistant coach for an NFL team told Jarrett Bell of USA Today that when that team interviewed Mathieu, he was asked how many drug tests he had failed in college.

β€œI quit counting at 10,” Mathieu answered. β€œI really don’t know.”

The assistant who passed along that story also told USA Today that Mathieu’s statement had him questioning LSU as much as he questions Mathieu.

β€œIf he flunked 10 tests before they suspended him, it shows that he got no kind of help,” the coach said.
Wash and repeat. He has said he's done with drugs before and it didn't pan out. If he can't stop using after more than 10 negative tests, then I can't see him stopping anytime soon. As a GM I'd want to see him clean for more than eight months before I spent a pick on him, especially since he's small to begin with and hasn't played in awhile.

And yes, if that's true then LSU has a lot of explaining to do. How does a kid stay eligible, much less the team/school allowing him to play and not getting him treatment?
Spends the last 6 months trying to clean up himself and his image. Been sober for 3 months.

So why not throw an after hours party at a NY club in honor of your 1st rd selection?

That sound you hear is the sound of his name being crossed off 32 draft boards.

AR sat in the green room 6 hours. Honey Badger might want to book that club through Saturday afternoon.

Moron.
