I was on the road at the time, so I'll tell it the way I heard it from my father.

At some point after SB 1 Max gave dad the football in question.
It wasn't autographed or marked in any special way.
A few years later dad was contacted by the HOF wanting that ball for obvious reasons and because Max had told them who he gave it to. They
offered to put our family name on the description display plaque.
Dad goes looking for the football and finds out that my two brothers had taken it across the street to toss around at Mather Heights Park and didn't
bring it home.
Dad's words: "Aack, they both blamed each other".
If that ball still exists, there's some person in GB that has no clue as to what they have!

I've tried various searches trying to get info about the ball, but came up empty.
How was dad contacted? Phone? Mail?
It would be great if someone with HOF connections could check out the story from the inside.

I have recounted this story here before: My Dad was Milwaukee cop in the 60’s when the Pack played 3 games a year at County Stadium. He got acquainted with Doug Hart and Bob Long who apparently hung together at a Milwaukee watering hole he frequented after his shift.

Knowing he was a cop with 3 sons, they gifted him a “Duke” football signed by most or many of the ‘66/‘67 Packers. He brought it home to us.

It didn’t hold up long given our football was played in the streets.

Che sera, sera.
