Something I thought of after watching that, from a run perspective those two guys are used to dealing with the much larger bigger bodied right side of the defense, in the run game pushing around the pass rush focused left "twitch" side of the defense should be easier than what they faced on the right side... Interesting to think about

The Packers and MM made this decision during the early part of the offseason and it came from film study and meetings - long before Lacy or Franklin were drafted

Also note that what Vic says in the video is that Lacy likes to run left, not that he is left handed

They rolled it out to the OL guys on Monday April 29th per the story by Tom Silverstein

dated 5/2

It may help Lacy out, but its unlikely that GB drafted Lacy late on Friday and then decided to flip the OL during the weekend of the draft and roll it out on the following Monday.

Flipping the OL should help in many areas, but it wasn't done based on which RB they drafted imo

Great point satori, but given your scenario doesn't this make sense regardless if it was predetermined?  Natural speed rushers off the right side like Jared Allen etc... can be neutralized with a dominant left side oline Along with a natural left side runner like lacy...think about his runs in the fbs champ game.  I also can't forget about how much Ahman green ran left.

Absolutely it makes sense on many levels, I was just pissing in Vic's cornflakes a little...

Teams try to run directly at Matthews as well, I think that's part of why they move him around so much. I'm expecting that GB's left side will be immensely better this year- and Lacy/Franklin/Green/Harris will be thrilled to see only a wide-eyed safety between them and the End Zone on more than one occasion

but what if they don't?

What if Rodgers get sacked?

What if worse...he gets injured?

What if the Pack goes 3-13?

What if the Pack goes 0-16?

What if the Pack goes -2-18?

I can't take this kind of pressure. I'm going to go watch Billiards.

While it is true that athletically Bulaga seems a better fit for LT than Newhouse, but IMHO nearly every move made this offseason has been done to improve our running game: 1) Not resigning Jennings 2) Drafting two RB's 3) Not using a early round selection on a WR 4) Signing a blocking TE 5) Flipping the line. IMHO MM has come to the realization that until we can get defenses to respect our running game, big plays in the passing game will be limited. I know that some are going to point out that we had more yards per game rushing last season that the year before. However that is a very misleading stat. The old mantra of DC's was always "stop the run and make the offense one dimensional & then just pin your ears back & get after the QB. Last season most DC's finally woke up & realized that the best way to play us was to do just the opposite, play us in formations designed to stop the pass, even on early downs. So many times we had an advantageous formation to run & either one or more olineman would get beaten or our RB couldn't make a defender miss. Listen to interviews of opponents & sound bites from their sidelines, more and more their defensive coaches are telling them to not react to run fakes, keep two safeties deep, and not give up the big play. Why did the Txans game look so easy & a lot like the year before? Because Wade Phillips was dumb enough to just play his defense as he does for all opponents. Guys on NFL Network could not believe it. MM has always said "it is not so much about the yards rushing, but the number of rushing plays is important", what this points to is; the threat of the run keeps defenses from loading up on the pass & this is what MM sees the running game doing....giving AR better opportunities in the passing game. Last season it didn't happen & MM is determined to turn that around this season.

IMHO MM has come to the realization that until we can get defenses to respect our running game, big plays in the passing game will be limited.

I agree Flpacker.  MM saw where he got hammered in the playoff loss by big plays but also by inability to produce momentum swinging big plays.  Kaepernick gave us chances to blow this game up early and we failed to produce the BIG PLAY cause we couldn't maintain the standard play.  Meantime, Capers trying to slow down the standard plays was vulnerable to the BIG PLAYS.

Losing that game will evolve MM's thinking and ROTTT's rosters for the future.

They flipped Bulaga and Sitton because most teams best pass rushers come off the left side of the offense and because Sherrod has not been able to play yet.  Simple as that.

If Sherrod had been able to stay on the field and become the guy they wanted then Bulaga would stay where he was and the Packers would have big, physical, bookend OTs but he had his leg cut in two. Maybe he can come back and grow into the position but maybe not. Thems the breaks sometimes.

Now the fight is going to be for RT and Bulaga is going to get the best pass rushers the majority of the time. Seems like a reasonable move for MM to make to protect his QB.

Bulaga's name made several appearances on the injury report for a gimpy knee before the hip gave out against the Cardinals. I don't think he was ever 100% at any point in 2012.

He gave up 4 sacks total in 9 games. 3 against Seattle in the 1st half.

I said, that the Seattle game was on my mind. I didn't say Bulaga completely sucked. I will wait and see how he does at LT.

I do have concerns about the oline. I hope they can play well this year.

I don't mind people disagreeing with me and pointing out why I might be wrong but why the vitriol.

I guess I can't criticize any player on the Packers without getting roasted.

Ok, injuries are a good explanation for Bulaga's performance in 2012. Thanks for the reponse.

Ok, ?, but I don't see Dietrich-Smith being the strength of the line.

He was better than Saturday, which may not be saying much at the end of his career, but it's better than relying on a rookie. He's been in the Packer system for a couple years now.

"?" certainly. Chopped liver?? Highly doubtful if this coaching staff selected him to start

EDS at least competed last year on Sundays, which was a huge step over Saturday. Actually, I like the way EDS gives an honest effort. He might not be the biggest or strongest or most athletic, but he does put a lot more heart into his work than some others on the line. (Hello, Newhouse? I see you're home only half the time...) I also think EDS probably calls a better line game than did Saturday, which it was mentioned last year that Rodgers did not like. So, someone will have to wrestle the position away from EDS -- at least he'll fight for it!
