EDS is playing for a big payday. He'll be fine.

No question he'll be motivated. I just question whether he's talented enough to turn motivation into quality play.
Completely fair question, but I expect him to be no worse than serviceable...and obviously hoping for even better than that. I'm comfortable with him starting for at least this year....it's ultimately up to him to show if he's the answer or not.
I'm personally more concerned about what the plan of action to cover for him is if he's injured at some point, and/or what we will do long term if he regresses even if he stays healthy.
Lang? Van Roten? UDFA? Bueller?
I'm in GVRs corner.
I'll bet Barclay goes inside if he doesn't win RT job and ends up as backup center.
He's played LT through college (started @LT for 39 straight or something) and was projected as a T or G coming out so YA, I can see Barclay moving to C. He's not moving any further inside this year than G. The inside swing guy for now (other than Dietrich-Smith) is Van Roten, and I think GVR wins the C job over EDS.

I don't get the love for Van Roten. I'd say he's no better than 50-50 just to make the final 53. If I had to choose which player is more likely to take a snap for the Packers at center in November, I'd go with Barclay over GVR.
Dont discount Patrick Lewis, the UDFA, as I've recently read he's been with the 2nd teamers at Center throughout the OTA's and Minicamp. He could be a back-up C or G. Likely between him and GVR, possibly Lang as the Center fallback position.
From todays JSO: "C Patrick Lewis: Behind Evan Dietrich-Smith, who signed a one-year tender, it's wide open at center. Lewis started every game at center through the 2011 and 2012 seasons. The 6-1, 311-pounder has realistic shot at the 53."
They flipped Bulaga and Sitton because most teams best pass rushers come off the left side of the offense and because Sherrod has not been able to play yet. Simple as that.
This.
I will go further. If they felt Sherrod had a shot to come back and be a stud, then I doubt they would have switched. I think they think he is done. Their best linemen protecting their QB's blind side seems a reasonable option vs. status quo which led to 51 sacks last year.
But he surely is an upgrade over the starting C last season. That's one spot that 2013 Green Bay is better at than 2012 GB.
Lang isn't hurt either. A healthy Lang is better than a hurt Lang. That's 2 of 5 spots we know are better.
The real question is the RT spot. Newhouse hasn't shown me much improvement. He has talent but he needs to be stronger. Barclay to me is more of an interior guy. He did OK last year but IMO the team wants to be bigger and a 6'3 or 4" 305lb RT isn't the answer.
What the Packers need is for Sherrod to make a comeback from his injury. I think part of the move of Bulaga was a concession to Sherrod. He probably can't move as well as he did so he is now probably a better fit at RT if he can play. And I'd love to see a 6'6" 325lb bookend line up at that spot.
I worry about Sherrod. He had such a bad leg break, I just don't know if he can play professional football anymore. We sure could use him though.
J.C. Tretter was supposed to compete for center, forget that now. This didn't help with the depth chart.
I think we may see more of Bakhtiari and Barclay at RT.

Agreed on EDS.
And I hope Sherrod makes it back too
Whether its a rehabbed Sherrod or another guy winning the RT spot, Bulaga was gonna be the best LT to start the season.
All GB OL really needs is for the 2013 Newhouse/Sherrod/Bakhtieri/ Barclay to be better than 2012 Barclay at RT - that's not a real high bar to clear imo. I think you're right in suggesting Don Barclay will end up inside as the utility guy until he can earn a starting spot
The rest of the OL will be fine and adding some more capable blocking at TE can be a big help as well.

In run blocking but he sucked in the pass game plain and simple. Saturday had some pass blocking ability left but that was it. EDS and Saturday were essential opposite sides of the coin. Both missing an element to their game.
After looking at the scar on Sherrod's leg last year at the Packer training camp, if he can come back and be an average or better contributor to the team, I'll be impressed.
I'll bet Barclay goes inside if he doesn't win RT job and ends up as backup center.
If Barclay doesn't win the RT job he probably has to be the best backup T on the team depending on Sherrod's progress. Why would Barclay move inside to be a backup center if he is the best backup T we've got?
I think he goes inside because they were already giving him snaps at center and I think his tenacity would help him inside. Just an opinion.
The Packers should give this guy a serious look.
Interesting stats.
Since 2008, Josh Sitton has started at RG beside 10 different C/RT combinations. Most consistent combo was Wells/Bulaga (29 starts)
Also since 2008, Josh Sitton has 72 starts w/ RT pairs of Bulaga (38 starts), Tauscher (14), Barbre (7), Lang (5), Barclay (5), Newhouse (3)
