Woodson replaces that with safety in the base. Special teams ability is much less important now than it was in years past because the nickel and dime are increasingly becoming the real base defense in the NFL. Five years from now, Bowen will be talking about the safety/ILB hybrid just like today the 3-4 OLB is really a DE-OLB hybrid. Richardson may be 5 years ahead of his time.
