According to Doug Pederson.

How do you get concussions holding a clipboard?
you'd think he'd know better. philly must be rubbing off on him, and that's just gross.
Strikes me as Doug just saying the right thing as a head coach. Doubt if he sincerely believes it.

You win today.
I'll give them the two OT spots and Alshon Jefferey is probably the best of the wideouts, but that's it.
Holmgren probably does not get enough credit as a coach
No doubt, the 96-97 packers were loaded, but it did take a strong willed coach to get them to perform..
Or, maybe concussions were spreading like a virus in the GB quarterbacks room back then???
Bet he also didn't mention that today guys are faster, bigger, stronger than they were even a decade ago. Maybe he beat himself over the head with his clipboard one too many times watching Favre toss another INT. But Pederson still has a long way to go to think that his Eagles are better than that Packer team.
True!! But Holmgren made that team, not Favre
A Philly fairy tale that begins: Wentz upon a time ...

It was that 1 Redskins game.
Packers have probably 20-22 guys in the 90'$ that would be starting for this year's Eagle team.
This Years Eagles Have More Talent Than 96-97 Packers
....so, if they don't win it all you can blame it on the coach. Smart to point that out Doug.
Think someone should tell Doug that it takes more than talent?
Be that as it may, the trouble with setting the bar so high is that you could miss it by more.
The Packers probably have 10 guys on THIS year's Packer team that start for the Eagles.
You would think AR alone would be enough to tip the balance in favor of GB.
I dunno, I like Wentz. I truly believe he is going to be a good one. Better than Dak any day.
but, what do I know? I also thought that Pederson was starting material in the late 90's. That worked out real well....
For Pederson

Wise words from a Teflon Man!
I prefer Napalm Don or Donny Drama. Not at all a political comment. It's about the individual.
Maybe Pederson was talking about cheerleaders?
I thought Reagan was called the Teflon Man ?
Pederson is probably the same stuff Geronimo Allison is. The 1996 Packer team had a still close to his prime Reggie White (a top 5 DE in NFL history), a Holmgren-controlled Favre in his prime (the Holmgren version at this point was top 10 QB all-time). That's two Hall of Famers right there. That team probably had the best DL in Packer history (between Reggie, Sean Jones, and Santana Dotson they had 360 career sacks and Gilbert Brown was the other guy). Leroy Butler should be in the Hall of Fame. Keith Jackson was a 5 time Pro Bowler at TE. Newsome looked like a guy who was going to be a perennial pro bowler at CB. And, Desmond Howard had one of the top 10 performances by a kick returner ever.
It's usually the team with 2-3 great players that win championships (I think Cliff Christl was right on this one). That Packer team had three guys in that category - Reggie, Favre, and Butler. The 2010 Packer team had Rodgers and Woodson (and probably an underappreciated at the time Nick Collins).
The Eagles starting QB had a decent rookie year, but he's still a guy who couldn't play until he was an upperclassman at North Dakota State because he couldn't beat out the guy who played in high school at Waupaca.
Got one more game to prove it Doug! Good luck!
Maybe, just maybe. If they had Wendt, I think they may win. With Foles, who knows if he'll play another monster game like yesterday? If he does, they stand a good chance with that D to beat the Pats. If Foles reverts to being Foles, then Brady gets his sixth ring. Go Iggles!
No, I still agree with MP's post above. Favre, White and Butler pretty much trump any trio PHI currently has. Not to mention the DL and special teams. But they are closer than I would have ever thought back in training camp.
They had AR, CW and CM3 in 2010.
I really thought Philly’s D line would have more success against Minny’s OL. They had some but not as expected.
Philly front 7 is really good. Tough to run on them and they rotate 7 guys on the DL to keep everyone fresh.
Its going to be a fun SB. Eagles are a 5.5 point dog. Three straight games the #1 seed in the NFC hasn’t been favored.
I think it's going to be a tight game, depending on Foles. Philly is good enough to hang against the Pats at every position except QB. If the QB who played yesterday shows up, I like Philly a lot. If the end-of-the-season QB shows up, it's going to be a long afternoon for Philly.

Has that ever happened before?
No...No way
I mean we were favored in our last Super Bowl, weren't we?
No, Steelers were favored by 2 or 3. But we were the 6 seed.
IN 1996 & 1997 We were favored in both

Hard boiled wise guys will always tell you look at the QBs and head coach first in a SB.
So a 5.5 spread is interesting. Actually, it’s really interesting.
I don’t think anyone knows how good Philly actually is.
I think the '96 Packers were better in many categories than this current Eagles squad, but I think that Eagles O-Line plus RBs are better. It sounded crazy when Pedersen said that, but I can see why he thought they would be really good. Their offensive and defensive lines are excellent, and that's even without Jason Peters who has been hurt. Wentz was looking like a future franchise QB before he got hurt. They may not have had anyone as dominant as Reggie White on their D-Line, but they've got like 6 or 7 really talented guys there.
As great as the '96 Packers were, their O-Line was shaky at times, but the reason they won it all was that they played their best ball at the end of the year.
The Eagles are good - I said that back in Nov-Dec of 2017, but they aren't as talented as the 96-97 Packers. They didn't get Ajayi until the trade deadline. Maybe liken it to the Andre Rison signing
However they are in the Super Bowl now. They have a chance to etch their spot in stone if they can beat what most people consider the GOAT.
FYI - Spread dropped from +6 points to +5.5.
That means a lotta money already went on Philly. If I was betting early, that's how I would've bet it too. Philly +6.
Now like Fandame astutely pointed out - Nick Foles plays out of his mind like he did vs. MinnyHaHa - Patriots are in trouble. I truly believe that. I don't expect Billy B to lay down like a bitch like Zim-Zam did though. Even if the Eagles jump on them, expect Billy B to adjust - just like Saxonville
Nice to see former Packers doing well like Doug Pedersen - Yes we help the league

According to my memory, and http://www.vegasinsider.com/nfl/superbowl/history/ we were favorites in XLIV. I'm pretty sure after that ATL game we were favored against Chicago in the NFCCG as well.
Anyway if Phi is more talented than 90s GB then it's probably because they have a better backup QB... Amirite? Get it?
Nah I'm just playing I like Doug Pederson.
So you're saying the argument hinges on whether backup QB Doug Pederson or HC Doug Pederson is better.
Who the hell would have ever guessed anyone would be asking that question 20 years ago?
I'm not gonna look it up because I'm lazy... but I thought GB has the #1 offense and #1 defense in 96-97. Philly is #7 and #4 respectively.
Philly is good... but not that good. I would be mildly surprised if they beat NE in the SB.
