Thompson presser

Preseason is important, every year there are surprises. To watch the young guys play, you're always surprised - sometimes good and bad

We're always looking at all positions (not just tackle). Never know how it's going to be tomorrow. We feel relatively comfortable

On Hargrove, Muir on energy: "As long as that's controlled, it's good thing"

"You'd be hard-pressed to get me to say anything about our young guys. ...We'll see. We haven't played any preseason games."

On Masthay: "We feel very comfortable with Tim. He came in and won job, but impressed with his continued growth."

On punters: "We've struggled during my tenure (to find), but if you have one, it's easy to find guys"

On backup QBs: "Mike, Tom and Ben all very keen in developing QB's. ...We like the QB school in off-season. Lifeblood of league is QB-driven."

"Never know about QB's until you get in the games. We like what we see."

On injuries: "With 90 opposed to 80, you'll have a few more mathematically. Fortunately nothing too serious. Camp is grueling."

"It's not alarming, but it is concerning because you have to tax other positional players."

"Graham Harrell carries himself like a QB and he was pretty good in college. So far he's doing a fine job."

Mike Neal's situation: "I have no comment on that."

"Jeff Saturday fits into offensive line like gently worn baseball glove."

On Moses: "He's doing OK. A guy that played hard and bounced around a little bit in college. Thought we'd give him a shot in FA."

"Historically, we have treasured college free agency. We won't stop doing that. Everyone has own idea"

Translation, I am not going to say anything about our young guys because we may try to sneak them thru to the practice squad and I don't want to jeopardize getting them.

Would love to know what he thinks but glad he doesn't share. The smartest GM in the game. Hopefully when he is done, he writes a book and give us some insight into his thinking. But his book will probably be 200 blank pages.
