What do you guys think of Tony Romo as an announcer? Everyone was loving the play prediction stuff. What I find most interesting overall is the insider information he lets out.
Specifically, on Thursday night, when it was reported that Montgomery had a broken rib, he was quick to reveal that coaches don't want that kind of injury report getting out, because opposing players will target the injury. Nantz was all, "Really?" and Romo just matter-of-fact goes "Yeah, unfortunately, that's what goes on" or something like that.
If you think about it, that wouldn't just apply to rib injuries, but to all injuries.
It's funny because we have been joking for years about McCarthy under-reporting injuries. Everyone here always assumed it was for throwing off the opponent's game planning or whatever, or just had some vague idea of not giving your opponent an advantage. I thought it was enlightening to hear it laid bare like that. Not sure the NFL would agree.
Romo is definitely a knowledgeable guy. Almost too knowledgeable? There was a couple of times Thursday when I was hoping the Bears' DC wasn't watching the broadcast.
Anyway, being from Wisconsin, I do like his Northern accent. Way better than Al Michaels' Eastern accent. And the guy is definitely current.
