With Training Camp upon us in a little over 3 days, what's something/someone that you think will surprise or not anticipate happening? Could be a good surprise. Could be a negative nelly one.

I'll start with 2:

1.) Scotty Toleien edges out Matt Flynn for the #2 spot come September 4th. Iowacheese's favorite boy has the better arm, better zip on the ball and hasn't hit his ceiling yet. Flynn comes in with all the experience, confidence. But that noodle is a noodle and Flynn will get no better. I think another year under Scooters belt will show up in pre-season.

2.) Nick Perry fails his physical. Nothing I've heard indicates he's any better or ready to go. Hope I am wrong but he's got a "it's more serious/complicated" then we thought written all over him. Expect "couple weeks" to be said...every 2 weeks.

What you got?

Worthy and Jones get cut.

Lyerly has a good camp and gets more playing time near the goal line as the season goes on. Goes into Beast Mode as we make our playoff run. Ashwaubenon names a street after TT in response.

For those wondering...

Derek Sherrod  6 '6 321 35 3/8 arms 11 inch hands

David Bakhtari  6 '4 300 34 arms 9 1/2 inch hands

If Bulaga is still dinged up. Bak, Sutton, Tretter, Lang, Sherrod are starting in Seattle. I think Sherrod is the RT of the future. I think Bostick and Colt are 1 and 1a at TE week 1.

There is absolutely no possible way Worthy and Jones get cut.
Rodgers suffers a season ending injury by slipping on a banana peel and then the Packers re-sign Bert Favor who goes on to throw for 6000 yards 80 td's with only 10 interceptions and goes on to winning the Super Bowl, SB MVP and league MVP and then during the offseason the Packers Organization vote during the off season to rename Lambeau Field to Brett Favre stadium. Next summer the city of Green Bay vote unanimously to rename Lombardi Ave. to Brett Favre Lane with Boris and Henry giving speeches at the dedication ceremony

It's hard to predict surprises this year because the things that are settled are very settled and the things that aren't settled have few surprising options. I can't imagine there will be a surprise at Safety...it's realistic to think we will either see Hyde or HaHa starting at Safety and it won't be surprising if either excels immediately.

I agree that Sherrod could be the biggest surprise, if he's healthy and motivated then he could leapfrog either Tackle. I would assume he will be competing with Bak, but if Bak looks better than last year then Sherrod will start competing with Bulaga at RT. Considering Bulaga, when healthy, was a stand-out RT on the SB team then I find it hard to believe Sherrod will take his spot.

For me I think the biggest surprise will be Julius Peppers. I think we will be surprised in how hungry he is and how Capers is using him. He's an incredibly unique athlete, probably one of the most unique in NFL history, so it's hard to say exactly where/how he will be used. I look forward to Capers finally having a good enough stable of pass rushers to do what he wants to do instead of having to piecemeal a pass rush with rookies and tweeners.

Future?  I don't know man... Bulaga is a 25 year old former 1st round pick that got hampered by a few injuries.  That dude can play.

Jones and Worthy... I think they both stick around another year.  Jones is just a guy and Worthy needs to show something, anything, pretty damn soon.

If Bulaga is healthy then he's starting at RT. No question.

I look at Bak and Sherrod as a homeless mans Staley and Davis in SF at this stage of Baks and Sherrods careers. Bak and Staley are close in size. Staley played 4 years (1 at RT) before getting his first pro-bowl nod. Anthony Davis played LT in college but had some deficiencies in pass protection so SF put his 6'5 325lb frame at RT and let him cave the right side in for Gore. I can see Sherrod being that same kind of RT.

I think Bulaga is a FA after this year so it would be nice to know if Sherrod can handle the job.

Excluding injury, I see no way Bak loses his spot as starting LT.

RT. That's Sherrod's best shot at winning a starting job I think. Bulaga's a good player when he's healthy, but there is plenty to be concerned about with him staying healthy.

Regarding Worthy and Jones, and Raji, and Boyd, and Thornton. At what point does the conversation change from Ted not being able to draft D-lineman to Trgovac being unable to develop them?

Jones was a force of nature in 1 on 1's in camp last year, rolled his ankle in the pre-season. Then never really progressed. His snaps went down to almost nothing and then took some plays at OLB against SF in the playoffs.

Agreed both guys need to produce. But it's hard to look at the number of young guys struggling on the D line and chalk it up to Ted not having an eye for talent. It's almost as if guys have to have pure natural ability (Jolly) or their own internal drive (Daniels) or they're going to kind of linger as "just guys" in GB.

Agree with the OP. Tolzien is the #2. Perry starts camp on the PUP.

Not a surprise but I fully expect Lattimore to beat out Jones. Brad Jones doesn't get cut, just demoted.

Worthy, injury has really slowed his progress so far in the league, but this is the year for him to stay healthy and produce.

PoopFoo will like this, but IMHO the GBP will realize by the end of camp that there's really no way they can keep Devonte Adams off the field.  He's the next Jennings/Jones/Jordy/Cobb to add to Ted's 2/3-round WR track record.

Dick Rodgers also stuns people with his skill and perhaps doesn't emerge as the starting TE, but as a guy who sees the field a lot as well.

As for Bak, no doubt GB wants him to continue to be the starter.

Why? He's much cheaper then Bulaga at LT. His last year is this one. If he were forced to play LT, and he plays well, he becomes a hell of a lot more pricey to re-sign. Bulaga would LOVE to play LT and have a solid year.

At RT, he's way cheaper. And considering he has a significant injury he's coming off of GB would much rather take a chance on him with a new contract at RT in 2015 then LT.

Sherrod has all the physical traits you'd love at the T position. But I agree with others. It's Bacteria's job to lose and then it's a battle between Sherrod and Bulaga at Right

I'm gonna push back a little on the OT's based on what I've read. Sherrod has been on the left side predominantly in OTAs/ mini camp ( despite Demovky's assertions)

Sherrod's ceiling is much higher at LT than Bak and that's the job they want him to win. Bulaga/Barclay at RT is fine depth and if Bulaga wants too much, Bak is on the roster.

Bak is limited in terms of his ceiling and Henry commented about it earlier- GB wants somebody who is dominant, especially at LT in a Rodgers'- led offense. Its highly unlikely that Bak can be that guy given his limitations- the same ones that made him a 4th and Sherrod a 1st. Bak's a scrapper; and he'll be better but he doesn't have the frame or athleticism like the great ones have from articles I've read.

(I have zero skills in player evaluations)

What will happen is anybody's guess, the battle in TC should be a blast to watch. My guess is that early on Sherrod will see lots of snaps at LT so they can get film on it and see if there's hope. And while saving cash is good - I think they would be happiest paying a stud and getting stud production at LT.

I think GB's hoped for OL in terms of performance is :

Sherrod-Sitton-Tretter-Lang-Bulaga with Bak as swing tackle and Barclay as interior guy who can also cover RT in a pinch. No matter who goes down, they don't need to shuffle

A "better" Bak is fine too, but the real upside for this OL is if your first rounder can take the job by playing like a first rounder.

And that would qualify as a surprise for many fans in TC

Hope it works out

My thoughts exactly Satan.

If Sherrod plays better than Bak at LT, I see no way Bak holds the job.

That being said, $herrod has his work cut out for him.

I liked the direction Sherrod was headed before he broke his leg.

Re: Worthy. I've seen flashes, but, he needs to stay on the field this season. Same goes for Nick Perry.

Time to go CAMPING!!!

If Sherrod beats out Bak at LT and has a solid year, TT will be kicking himself for not picking up his 5th year option. But still I can't imagine there would be a huge demand for him considering this would be his only healthy year.

between Bradford and Adrian Hubbard, Perry better get it going or he'll be an after-thought.  and dang, Perry has looked the part a few times and just when he seems to be stacking some success then he's injured again.

That's the thing, we don't get to "see it" but they do

And we're left trying to piece together the story based on snippets of info filtered through a media team that is always grinding an axe

One area where we can learn something is by paying attention to the teams' actions or inactions in personnel

Since there is no other viable LT candidate on the roster, they must have confidence in Sherrod being at least good enough to be a back-up.

Packers add OLB Korey Jones. 2013 UDFA Cut by AZ. Played in CFL last year with BC Lions. 6'2" 235lbs.

Roster now at 90 players. Puts a total of 14 LB's in camp. Big number.

I hear you... but when you consider the Packers treated the QB position last year like they did the T position this year, consider me skeptical with Sherrod.  The same decision makers had confidence in the backup QB's a year prior.

Back to Bak... I don't care where he was drafted or what his measurables are, the kid proved that he can play a crucial position as a rookie.  Doesn't he get the benefit of the doubt for off season improvement like everybody else?

I see Bak holding down LT.

I don't think the fact that Sherrod is getting some LT reps is a sign of supreme confidence in the guy.

This team (with AR) can win with Bak and Bulaga at T and Barclay as the backup RT. Bulaga can play LT if Bak gets hurt.

Anything from Sherrod is gravy. I don't see the next Anthony Munoz that some of you guys seem to see in him.
