For better or worse they are stuck with Perry.  Release him the next couple of years and the dead money cap hit is enormous.

In retrospect, not resigning him may have been the best move but it is what it is.  Younger guys need to step it up.

Just through 2019, the dead money is lower after. Seems they built the contract with 2019 as a potential out. At most our medical staff will be tending to him for 1 more season.

The Packers structured Perry's most recent contract, which contained an $18.5 million signing bonus, so that they could move on after the 2018 season and actually gain salary-cap space. Perry is due a $4.8 million roster bonus if he's on the team on the third day of the league year in 2019, so if the Packers cut him before that March date they would wipe that and his $5.2 million base salary off their cap.

They would have to count the remaining prorated portion of his signing bonus against their cap, but could defer some of that by designating him as a June 1 cut. If they cut him without the June 1 designation, they would save $3.6 million off their 2019 cap. If they used that designation, they would save $11.1 million.

The way I read Perry’s salary breakdown on Spotrac was there’s a dead cap hit of 11MM in 2019 and about 7MM in 2020 if he’s released.   Not sure it was clear on dates, but if the info was accurate that seems like a lot of money to eat if he’s not on the team.

They should pick up some $$$ if they don’t bring back Cobb and CMIII.

He’s not a starter, he’s definitely taking advantage of being underestimated this year. I don’t think his sacks are a fluke though, he’s executing very well both with speed and quickness inside against good and bad Tackles. Again I don’t think he’s a starter and Gute would be foolish to assume he is, but I do think he’s a key part of a rotation going forward. We don’t HAVE to have an elite pass rusher like Vonn Miller or Kahlil Mack, but we need a better starting pair and a deeper bench. Pettine never had an elite pass rusher with the Jets and was fine.

Fackrell’s 3 sacks @ Seattle werent flukes. He actually flashed some technique.

Gilbert is looking more and more like the latest recipient of the Jayrone Elliot August All Star award. So it would be great to see Fackrell keep progressing.

Given King and Breeland’s inability to stay healthy it sucks GB needs to draft another ****ing corner after the Randall and Rollins disaster. But that’s pretty much the reality.

If he’s full speed his best asset is his 4.4 speed, but if he’s slowed by a bum hamstring he doesn’t have the savvy to compensate. If he does play I hope it’s lower on the depth chart.

That would be his straight line speed.  He struggles vs short area speed and change of direction.  Both things Thielen and Diggs excel at.
