I'm the tough guy but I prefer to call it hardcore.    But I come fully prepared for cold weather, love cold weather and I would NEVER take any of my gear off until I get back to my nice warm truck or a cozy tavern.

edit:  the games I attend are the only ones I get emotionally involved in.

otherwise, when I sit at home I can kick back on the couch and enjoy the game for what it is.  altho good plays can get me to hoot and holler for a moment.

The good news is that the Oblivious Moron can overcome this condition and eventually be cured. It just takes a few years of watching football, and patience from family and friends.

The author apparently has never visited this board.

Me = The Old-Timer.

Read the first couple paragraphs and thought it was going to be a fisher price puff piece by a freelance writer that passively watched a few NFL games. Actually a well written piece. Fun reading each one and someone on this board instantly came to mind.

Thought the "Optimistic realist" fan is missing. Fan that understands GB is a really good team but isn't afraid to voice concerns provided they're accurate backed by supporting facts. "Need better OL depth", "Hawk is what he is but GB can and should upgrade the position" are examples. "We need better trainers" would be the other end of the spectrum.

Thanks for posting this.

I would add another type. Call him the comfortable expatriate.

I moved away from Wi ~28 years ago right to the heart of Bear country.  And sports fandom is a pretty poor basis for friendship. Or enmity, for that matter. So I hang with my Bears fan friends on Sundays. Bet a drink or a couple of bucks twice a year. Enjoy the current advantage, which most Bearians feel has been unfairly continuous since 1992. Try not to disparage their fleeting successes. Take the occasional beatdowns with as much grace as I can muster.

I suppose I'm a more casual fan than many here. I rarely wear any Packer apparel and then only on game days.

Don't see how that makes you any more casual/less hardcore than the next guy.

Vic Ketchman at Packers.com has had some poignant thoughts on enjoying the games.  It's too easy to get too caught up in just how important the outcome is in the grand scheme of things.  Just enjoy how great this game is going to be.

I can't find the definitive description that I'd use for myself, but probably closer to Tough Old Angry Guy.

I'd say the author has a pretty good cross-section of this board!
There are a couple of exceptions; we are lucky enough to have very few Bandwagon Jumpers, if any, and I don't think we have any Cry Baby-types. We better not have, anyway! Times Four is NOT for pussies!

LOL, DD!

I'd say in chat we have the Tough Guys, the Eternal Pessimists, and the Angry A-Holes.

There will be a Triple D or two on occasion, but the fast pace of the chat helps to ignore it.

Lived in queen and Dolphin territory, and always was proud showing off the green and gold.

Since I was always one of the biggest and in shape in their bars wearing Packer colors, never had a problem. If my Packer buddies joined me in a queen bar in queen territory, we quickly owned the place doing head stands on the bar, doing shooters and tap tap, and dancing with the townies' women. And never got into a fight because everyone was having so much fun and the owner knew a good thing when he saw it. Good times.

So I guess I was a Tough Old DancingBear No Need to be Angry Packer fan that's mellowed over the years. (Sorta like Nick Nolte- don't have an over abundance of nerve endings left.)

They missed a few types, but of course they were trying to overcaricaturize, and round off the list at 10.  I'm definitely the cerebral/long distance/in it for the pure entertainment value type, and certainly not the "my team's successes and failures, as only I perceive them, single-handedly comprises my entire personal emotional well-being 24/7/365" type....  Anyone know some of these?

No matter where I go. If I wear anything green & gold, I'm certain to receive comments good & bad.

Fans of other teams recognize the Packers are a good team & they want their team to be like us.

I love the competition, like the game this Sunday. We love watching 2 great teams play against each other. Hopefully we get to see a great game.

I'm a hybrid fan, somewhere in between the tough guy and the angry A-Hole. I have toughed it out in cold and rainy games. I have attended many Patriot and Packer games in NE and always wore Packer gear. The fans here can be very rude and aggressive.

I don't disrespect fans from other teams. I get along with other fans here in NE. I don't like people who insult fans from other teams.

I do get pissed at the refs, the no fumble call in SF set me off, not to mention Seattle ref last year. I'm sure Harbaugh will get the angry a-hole side of me activated on Sunday.

Well up yours... which if I really were a proctologist would be the deepest of compliments.

Edit: I was going to add a smiley there but thought it would seem like I was enjoying it too much.

Yep.  Some who have posted in this here thread should be forced to read every one of their posts from the past and recite them before being allowed to diagnose themselves again.  Oy.

What? Is that a BAD THING?  You know Green Bay Packers football is not just a sport!  It's way of life!  Yep, I guess I am one of those emotional types.

I am an old-timer.

However, I was never at the Ice Bowl.  I was never seduced by Paul Hornung, I never met Vince Lombardi - in traffic or otherwise.  I never arm-wrestled Ray Nitschke.  In fact, over the years I have once personally been in the same vicinity of two then current Packers who I didn't have any reason to talk with.  And I never watched the Acme Packers play at the old City Stadium.  And I try not to bore people with ancient history unless I think it serves to help make a point.  So I don't know that the description fits.

I am absolutely "an old time"!!   And proud of it.   I have been a Packer backer back when I had to watch the games on RADIO.   Some of you youngsters on this forum probably have to look in the dictionary to find out what a radio even is.  LOL!!  Many a game I "watched" on radio before my folks even had a TV.   That was a great many years ago!!!!!

What was it like before dirt?

Yeah, I had to watch the Packers in black and white for years. That should definitely qualify me for tough guy status.

I would be in the nail biter category. Last year when Seattle was making their last drive on the Packers, I was in nail biter mode and quickly switched over to angry a-hole.
