Per Cleveland.com, Browns GM John Dorsey to interview Elliot Wolf tomorrow. Guessing he's as good as gone.
Ain't over yet but Wolf & Dorsey together could turn the Browns into a winner may be more valuable to Wolf in the long run than winning another title in Titletown

Seriously? you need weekly updated on game plans and Asst Coach Evals? That is micro mgt at it's worst. What the F do you know about game plans in todays NFL Murph? Are weekly status reports on job performance of the coaches really the best use of your HC's time?
Not liking this structure one bit.
Grave Digger beat me to it....
Good of you to jump to the conclusion that they'd be meeting weekly on these items & then condemning the structure you know little about.
I'm 90% sure that he said they would be sitting down once a week. About 2 mins later the questions was asked about content of the meetings. See his response above.
You went off the rails about meeting weekly to discuss game plans & Assistant coach evaluations which is unlikely to subject of the meeting.
"Murphy said he also will consult McCarthy, who was part of the GM interview process and met with Gutekunst for more than an hour, on “everything that’s under the coach’s control” in weekly, in-season meetings. Possible topics include coaching hires and even game plans, Murphy said, though he won’t spend the meetings vetting potential fourth-and-one play calls." http://www.packersnews.com/sto...comes-gm/1012881001/
I think, beyond feeling snubbed, Elliot wants to broaden his resume. Can't really blame him. If he can be a proven success elsewhere, he's that much more desirable. At 35, another opportunity will arise at 1265. He doesn't have to stick around and wait.

If he wants to spread his wings and fly away, he should.
Won't hurt to sink or swim in a totally different environment.
If he wants to stay, that's cool too.
Ron Wolf had many stops along the way before he was a Packer. His last stop was his best stop. And just because he has half his DNA, doesn't mean Eliot will replicate his father's success in GB or elsewhere. If he feels he must move on to help his career, so be it.
Even if he was named GM in GB, there is no guarantee he'd be successful. Ron was 53 when he took over the Packers...he had a lot more experience and failure than Eliot has. EW needs to go have some success and failures of his own so that he can be judged as his own man, not just "Ron's son."
If Eliot goes to Cleveland with Dorsey & they build THAT team into a playoff contender, he'll have his choice of where we wants to go, I assure you

Then again, this is the same team that pays A&M royalties for using 12th man references so idiocy seems to run deep with that has been franchise...
I think you mean Paul Allen and I suspect he mails his change jar to A&M every month to cover that expense…
And if he stays and wins a Super Bowl as the assistant GM under Gute, he'll also have a number of opportunities.
The sky is the limit for Wolf.
Not saying that Wolf isn't the consummate professional and it wouldn't hurt to lose him as a valuable asset, but it may be better if he leaves. He's human, and may feel some resentment for being passed over. Highsmith certainly expressed some frustration. Can't have that kind of negativity brewing. Gute can build his own staff by promoting within and hiring in to fill needs.
Andrew Brandt with an outstanding article at SI.com, about life under Ted and the winds of change (or lack thereof) at 1265. Highly recommended.

Cool. Thanks for posting that ILCuqui
One thing in the EW to Cleveland- they have 5 picks in the top 50. If Dorsey and his crew can't build a team in 3 years it is time to quit. I bet with that capitol I could build a winning team! So I am not sure this is too big an achievement

Read it this morning - always fun to read what Brandt has to say.
So it's true - Ted went to bed early and wouldn't answer his phone
Always liked Brandt's take on things.
Still follow him on Twitter.

So a little over 40% of their roster is from elsewhere, which makes sense. Every team wants to draft and develop, the best run ones know when to get guys to plug in when there have been deficiencies. "Draft & Develop" and "Best Player Available" are really incompatible. If there's a mystically "highest rated player" on your board every time and you take that guy, your position distribution would absolutely suck and you have to fill in with free agents/trades just to have a functional lineup.
Packers’ personnel man Eliot Wolf, who is in Cleveland interviewing with GM John Dorsey today, also has an offer to join Reggie McKenzie/Jon Gruden in Oakland, per @RobDemovsky.

No surprise about Oakland - In a few years Reggie "retires" then guess who takes over?
Gutenkunst had very nice things to say about Eliot & spoke how he considers Eliot a friend. I understand if he isn't happy with the decision, but no matter what, wherever he goes he won't be a GM this year anywhere else either.
Either way it's Eliot's call

You are starting to turn me...slowly to the dark side. Free agency...used in moderation.

Make up for lost time. Andre Wadsworth or David Boston still might be available.
Las Vegas > Cleveland...Gruden as HC, Carr at QB...much better chance to succeed than at the perpetual suck-hole that is Cleveland.

Gruden?
Eliot Wolf has in fact accepted the Browns offer to join their front office. He's agreed to a 4-year deal to work with GM John Dorsey
Is there a dream job GB clause in the deal?
Cleveland fans are planning parade.

I like how he's doing his hair now that he's a Raiduh again

That right there has always been my argument against always going with the BPA. Sure I completely agree there are times to use it but if you go that route too often you have to fill in a lot of holes elsewhere. Now I am not saying it isn't a good philosophy but like free agency it should be used in moderation.
Anyhow, as for Wolf I think this may be a great move for him. Go somewhere that there is no pressure at all to win because Browns fans would consider a 5 win season a success at this point. And if he can help them win big in Cleveland? imagine his opportunities down the road.
problem for wolf - and dorsey - is navigating the bizarro world of the owner. its not really coincidence that it has been the factory of sadness for a while. so its kind of a hail mary - either you get a street block named after you or you get fired and overlooked forever. if it was me, i would have gone for the proven system and front office of gb...fire your bullets when you interview to be actual gm - you have shown proven capabilities with a good system in place. but obviously that's not as sexy as the hail mary.
That's pretty much all the old warhorses from the Wolf tree I guess. See what happens.
Great....a new "B-Junk" for you
Good for wolf. Good for GB. We don’t need hurt feelings in the building. Less noise. I wish the young man well. Now go beat the stinking patriots.

it's a sad day for the press as one of their leading whisperers and associate family move on to another franchise. no more moles.
Except I think Gute ends the shroud anyway. I'm not saying he'll spew schit out like Jerry does, but he's going to look way more transparent.
Aren't we a little concerned how much Gunt is pissing away money in free agency?
Brandt w/Murphy, recorded during the '17 season.
With both coach and GM now reporting to him, @packers CEO Mark Murphy is closest thing to team "owner" they've had. Wide-ranging talk on podcast from earlier this year: https://t.co/b7oCfoc83t

BUNK. Murphy is not the closest thing to an owner until I see his stock certificate.
Does he sign the front of his paychecks or the back?
Below is a link to a long but great article about our new GM. Basically his only full time job has been with the Packers.
