We live in Wake Forest (Raleigh) Lovely, but I wouldn’t rank it 3rd. Durham is a shit hole in 50% of the places we’ve been through.

My and Mrs.Keil’s hobby the past 10 years is to look at cities to move to…we lived in St.George UT which I would put on that list…next stop is probably Chattanooga TN which should be on that list for low taxes, low crowding and mild weather.

Next stop after Chattanooga would be ideally, Tucson…probably too hot for most of you.

I love Jacksonville (25 years there) because we raised our family there….but no. Also, hard no on Green Bay, bless your hearts…

For those of you daydreaming about where to relo, some cool cities we’ve looked at:

-Davidson NC

-Mt.Pleasant SC

-Beaufort SC

-Melbourne FL  - (Lived there ‘94-‘96)

-Franklin TN

You had me at Tucson… Bear Down!!

Tucson runs about 10 degrees per day cooler than Phoenix.

Absolutely the truth.

People joke a lot about it being a “dry heat” in Zona.  There’s some truth to it though. I’ll take 105 degrees in Tucson any day over 85 in Florida.

To each their own.

agree 100%.  Before we moved to phoenix, we lived in Northern VA, outside of D.C.  Summers there can get up in the 90's, and the humidity is brutal (not near as bad as FL, but bad enough).

I will take the dry heat any day.

Summer in Tucson is preferable to summer in Florida even during monsoon season.  Weather is great.  The City Council, not so much. FIX THE DAMN ROADS!  WHY ARE YOU GOING WITH MICHIGAN LEFT TURNS?    Yes, I yell at clouds.

My son used to own a home in the Catalina Foothills.
The view of Tucson at night was amazing.
Daughter went to UA and a musician bud lives in the boonies a couple miles off Ajo Way.

Until Nueske's in Wittenburg gets the recognition it deserves, I'm afraid that area of the state will be overlooked.

My mom just retired from there last month. Their bacon is phenomenal.  Scratch that their everything is phenomenal.

Been in Tucson for 3 1/2 years, and in a word - AWESOME!!!!

Absolutely love to sun, blue skies with constant puffy white cloud in 360 degree horizon, mild winters, unbelievable landscape, good cost of living, and lots of regional culture.  The summer heat is nothing (certainly not compared to humid places), and monsoon season is actually a welcome to a lot of people as it feeds the landscape and gives some breaks of coolness each day.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND, especially for someone retired!!

What part of Tucson are you living in?

Gotta know….what’s a Michigan Left Turn?

Haven't heard it called that, but I'm guessing it's where you drive thru a major intersection about 75 yards and make a U-turn at another light. Then you make a right hand turn to go (originally) left.  There's a few in the area I've seen. It's to help turning lanes not backup.  Similar principle to "milk jug handles" in Jersey, just opposite..

Retired or lazy is the key word.
There are 24 hr services. Across the street I have grocery store that opens at 6am and closes at 10pm. LOL, one near by opens from 5am to 6am just for seniors on Wednesdays.

Agree about Durham, used to work at Duke for a week or two every summer and you had to be careful where you went if you ventured off campus (and that was 30-35 years ago). Davidson is a nice college town. Just spent the month of February in the Charleston SC area (Folly Beach) and love it there.

I live in Folly Beach. I have to leave the area during the summer because of tourists. But the rest of the year is worth it.

We are also doing some eyeing of places to retire.  We are thinking hard about TN and maybe Charlotte NC area.

For me its a hard no on Beaufort, SC maybe its bad memories from Parris Island or Florida its no go for me for southern heat and humidity.  I sort of get the appeal of the weather in FL but I have never been that impressed with that state. I would rather live through a Wisconsin winter.

All kidding aside, Colorado Springs is near perfect (for me).  Weather…it is warm in the spring, fall and summer. Winter is sunny most days and usually in the 40 degree area.  The health care is as good as it gets, the scenery can’t be beat, lots of retirees (mostly military).  The politics are a bit too right for me but most of the politicians are “our dads republicans” types, not whackos.

And lots of Packer fans are in the area….you can see them every Sunday at Tony’s Bar, the best Packer Bar I have ever been in.  Get there real early if you want a seat!

One word........Braunschwiger.

Grew up on Braunschweiger. When I was in High School, my Mom would make me Braunschweiger and onion sandwiches for lunch and put them in a paper bag. Come lunch time, I could be blindfolded, and find my locker just by following the aroma.
