Will You Still Follow the Packers/Post on X4?

How the Packers season is going has nothing to do with people leaving X4.

Why don't you let the people answer the question themselves.

I’ll follow them no matter what.  When the Pack has been really bad in the past, I pay more attention to other teams.

Back when the Pack had a couple down seasons in 1979/1980 I was a huge fan of the San Diego Chargers of that era.

In the late 1980s I mostly rooted for whatever team could knock out the Bears from the playoffs. 😀

I started following the Packers in 65. Why ?Because I saw pictures of them in SI. We got  no Packers games on TV in NY unless it was a playoff game. Followed them thru the dark times and will continue to follow. But if the weather is nice and I have work to do outside I'm not sitting at a computer streaming the game while they decide to play like shit. I can listen on XM and record the game to watch later if I want. And I don't get all bent when they lose.

I haven’t been posting at all, life pretty much gets in the way but I still look at X4 every day and I don’t think that would change even if the Packers reached a Lion/Bear/Viking level of futility for multiple years.

I’ve been told that only other teams have bandwagoneers.  Much like Rick Blaine I must have been misinformed.

I sometimes tell others how tough it has been to be a Packers fan over the last several years. We came so close so often, they have been years of seeing false hopes crushed again and again. Fans of the Lions or Jaguars had no such hopes in the first place, or if they did they were crushed early in the season - no waiting until the playoffs to see them slip away.

When I lived in Milwaukee, I was a fan of the local Admirals hockey team for years. They usually didn't do too well, and I often found myself coming up with wildly improbable scenarios of how they could squeak into the payoffs and win the championship. I think in sports, one always has to hang on to any thread of hope that remains, just in case.

I guess it's sort of a different scenario with the Packers because we've seemed almost guaranteed to make the playoffs almost as long as I can remember. It will be a big adjustment to start hoping against all odds to even have a chance at a wildcard spot. Living on the West Coast, the games are at inconvenient times anyways (10am and 1pm). If they go much below 500, I might just decide to keep an eye on the scores instead of watching the whole game.

After rambling for so long, I'll lleave you with some song lyrics that express how I feel about the squad:

Been a X4er since 2002; not going anywhere. Jumped on the GBP bandwagon in 1965, stayed through the 1970s and '80s, and will not go anywhere even if there are a couple of bad decades ahead. Oh, I may look at the other teams a little more often in lean years, but I still dance with the team that brung me.

I'm a minimal poster but an avid reader.  TBH, and I know it sounds strange, but there is a part of me that is looking forward to the post AR era.  I know we'll likely be down for a bit, but the excitement of building back is up part of what makes sports compelling.

I'm not going anywhere. I watched them in the 80s when I was a kid. That'd be great if they could stay competitive, and I still think they can.

Even so, when they hit rough patches, X4 is pretty entertaining!

Are we talking leaving on purpose or getting accidentally banned?

Packers fans are spoiled, especially the ones that grew up in the Favre era that continued when AR took over.  Having a legitimate chance to win the SB every year just isn't normal... but we've had that going on for almost 30 years.  

I grew up a Packer fan in the 70's and 80's through the lean years and I'll die a Packer fan regardless of how crappy they are.  In today's NFL with free agency you can build a pretty damn good team quickly if you do it right.  The lean years, if they're coming, won't last that long.

I won't be upset if we lose a few negative MFers here at X4 over the next several months.  That Buck forum needs them.

As of this typing, I'm not dead. But as we all know, tomorrow is not guaranteed. It's getting harder for me to type much as both my parents had arthritis in their hands. As my orthopedic PA recently said, "You were doomed from the start, weren't you?"  At least the hyaluronic acid shot in the knee still helps. I must be at least the 20 year mark by now. Geesh...time flies when you're having fun. As long as BK is still here to entertain us, I'll be reading.

BTW, I've given up going to the games. For the cost of 2 to 3 tickets to the kind of seats I like, I can afford to rent a vacation home Up North for a few days so we as an entire family can enjoy time together. After our experiences in 2021, it is valuable time.

But I will always watch the Packers. (Unless my BP starts getting too high.)
