Witnessing greatness-- Aaron Jones

I hate weird cherry-picked stats. Good RB, bad ball security at the worst of times. I liked Ahman Green more, he had the decency to fumble no matter what the situation was!

Aaron Jones will go down as a greatly underrated player.  Cook and Kamara and Chubb get all the press (less in 2022) but Jones, more talented or not, may have been more effective.

I loved Ahman as much as anyone because of his explosive speed and ability to find the crease and GO!, but AJ is a more complete back.

AJ is more complete and that's why he's not celebrated as much. Guys who do one thing and do it well -- D. Henry, Cook, Kamara, et al. -- tend to focus on one thing and hence get all the pub. Jones can do so many things well that it's tough to categorize him, so they don't. It's like a great utility man in baseball who plays almost every day at all sorts of positions: he'll never make the big bucks, but he's indispensable to the team.

I would say AJ's balance and yards after contact is as good as anyone in the league.

He doesn't get as much "pub" as those guys because he doesn't get as many touches as they do. Jones was 22nd in "touches per game" ... 9 fewer than league-leading Henry.

I remember some of those fumbles Green had. In that game, they were due to him wearing rubber elbow guards which allowed the ball to slip off them when he ran. He switched to cloth guards, after one fumble, and the problem was solved.

I think Jones' fumbling is a result of his running style. He always has the non- "ball holding" arm windmilling  as he's running between defenders. That get's the entire upper body twisting back and forth.

Unrelated, but AJ has the longest arms I've ever seen on a RB.  I bet he can touch his knees without bending.

It also leaves the ball exposed when he doesn't use his other arm to cover it. I don't see him securing the ball very often with two arms. Maybe that's a reason they don't use Jones nearer to the goal line; Dillon covers it better and while he may not always get in, he's less likely to lose it.

Jones is a winner, a great teammate, and a great representative of the Packers.  He will be hard to replace when his career is over with the Pack.  I am glad he is around at least for this year as his presence makes it easier for whoever the QB is.

We knew when we signed him a few years ago that after the second year, there would be a little bit of a time here where we’d have to make a decision. We’re just really, really excited to get him back.”

" Rodgers revealed late last season that several players on the team conducted a straw poll earlier that season to determine the top five favorite teammates in Green Bay’s locker room.

“Everybody had Aaron Jones,” Rodgers said.

“He’s one of the finest dudes I’ve ever played with,” Rodgers added. “He’s a first-class guy. Everybody loves him … that’s the kind of guy he is. He’s a real lovable guy. He’s got a great attitude about him. Every day seems to be a good day for him, and if you’re ever feeling crappy or you didn’t have a good night of sleep or you’re in your head about something, go over and give A.J. a hug and you’ll have a better day.

“He’s gone through a lot of hardship and heartache himself but always keeps a good attitude about it. The stuff he does in the community is fantastic. He was raised in kind of a strict environment, but the things he took from it, the ‘Yes sir, no sir’ stuff, has never changed, and I think there’s a special beauty about that classic nature in him. I just love playing with him.”

Donning a sleeveless UConn jersey in support of his cousin — Huskies starting point guard Tristen Newton — Jones certainly looked like he hasn’t skipped curls day yet this offseason."
