Another one of THOSE stories.....but it is pretty cool.

There are many crazy Packers fans, and we mean crazy in a good way. But can you imagine only cutting your hair when the team goes to the Super Bowl?

That's exactly what one superstitious fan from Sparta has pledged to do. Chris Van Alstine will get his hair cut on Thursday for the first time since the Packers beat the New England Patriots in the 1997 Super Bowl.

The 46-year-old has pledged to donate almost two feet of hair to Locks for Love, an organization that makes wigs for sick kids.

But, more than anything, it's about his superstitious beliefs and not letting down the Green and Gold.

"I don't know why I did it but three days before they went to the Super Bowl, I shaved my head except for a small rattail down the right side," said Van Alstine.

He's doing the exact same thing this year. Van Alstine believes in sticking with what worked. The thing is, after all this time, he has grown to love his long locks.

"It's my identity. A lot of people identify me because of my hair so I play in a band and I never realized what kind of attachment I have to it," said Van Alstine.

But he also has some major guilt weighing on his conscience.

When the Packers returned to the Super Bowl in 1998, Van Alstine didn't trim down like he had done the year before. He partly blames himself for their loss to the Denver Broncos.

"That game, the one against Denver, haunts me. I vowed after that game I would not cut my hair until they won the NFC championship game," said Van Alstine.

There are no guarantees but Van Alstine says it's a shot worth losing his hair over.

"Take one for the team. Anything I can do to help," said Van Alstine.

Chris will get his hair cut on Thursday night at Blue Moon in Onalaska. The event starts at 6 p.m. with the trimming getting underway at 7.
