I saw this on NFL Network during the week of the Lombardi celebration - but I watched it again anyway. Smiler They had the HBO show on that week as well.

Back in those days there were rumors about how Taylor was not happy before he came out and said so publically. Also there were MJ newspaper articles about how the team was going to get along with it's new (and rich) backfield tandem. Of course, most players said the right stuff publically. But later, after Lombardi left, some said things that brought all those previously nice comments back into question.

Thanks for posting it.
Bill Curry does an excellent job sharing his POV as a southern kid in a northern clime and all the racial issues that were swirling around at the time

Bart Starr may be the most gentlemanly gentleman to ever play the game

I wish there were more clips of Lombardi, some of them seem a bit overused
Still an awesome show that I shared with my kids, the next generation needs to know what the Glory Years were all about

Of all the America's Games about the Packers, IMO the 1966 one is the best.  The Willie Davis-Bill Curry vignette is astounding (starts at 19:00 in clip above).

Picking up on Satori's point, with leadership like that exhibited by Starr, Willie Davis, others like Nitschke, and of course Vince, is there any wonder this team was the most successful ever in this league?

Thanks for cluing us in to the Davis-Curry part, cuqui. Davis was a great leader, and you know his attitude had to be a reflection of Lombardi's attitude as well. Sometimes I think the guys on Lombardi's teams are portrayed as only followers of Lombardi  or as scoundrels like Hornung and McGee who Lombardi liked, but I think first and foremost those teams were comprised of first-rate leaders. This helps prove it.

I love all 4 of those America's Game documentaries about the 4 different Packers' Super Bowl Champion teams.   All 4 have a great story to tell.

Unfortunately for me, I was conceived in fall 1968, born in July 1969.  I estimate I was conceived about 9 months after Super Bowl II.  I couldn't have timed my entrance into this world any worse as far as being a Packer fan goes.   I didn't really care too much about the Lombardi years when I was younger, but now that I am middle aged, I have come to realize how close I really was to being around for those years and I'm genuinely sorry I missed them entirely.
