I've posted this before but Packer Update had a little diddy on Hawk and said cutting AJ Hawk in 2013 would net GB a measly 100K off the cap. That's it.

While yes, I'd like to see an upgrade there and I do believe a better starter exists I highly doubt AJ Hawk is anywhere other then GB in the next 2 seasons.

He's at the least a competent backup who been mostly healthy in his career and according to Capers and MM, someone they rely on for assignment direction and instructing defensive players where to line up. And to get that vs. saving 100K, why would TT dump him?

For camp battles this year.....

Shields vs Hayward vs House IMO will be an interesting one. Shields should win out but I wouldn't underestimate House who's impressed in OTA's and Mini Camp so far. And coaches love Hayward's intelligence.

Any camp battles you're looking forward to?
Camp stories I'll be following:

1. Does Gurley make the starting 53.
2. Does Sheilds keep his spot.
3. Health of Tramon.
4. Starting Safety opposite Burnett(and what Richardson shows)
5. How does Moses look in pads at full speed.
6. What Marc Tyler shows
7. What Dale Moss shows
8. Exact date and time Worthy takes a play off.
9. Progression and development of Datko.
10. Can Daniels insert himself into the starting rotation.

Competition on defense is going to be fierce. Guy's are going to have to fight like mad to make the team. That's a good thing.
Can Perry cover in space ?
Can Hayward & House keep Bush on special teams ?
Can McMillian or MD Jennings take the spot from Peprah ?
Will Vic So'oto make enough of a leap in year 2 to become a 3-4 OLB ?
Can Sean Richardson cover the big athletic TE's and earn a spot ?

What dimension does Saturday add for an up tempo offense ?
Does TE DJ Williams stick ?
Will EDS, Draiheim or other look like a viable future Center ?
How well has Alex Green recovered from his ACL ?

Has Cobb solved his fumbling issues ?
Who is the holder on kicks now that Flynn is gone ?

I'm anxious to see what the initial lineup will be, and then watch how the individual positions shake out.
On offense, mainly RB, and will be very interesting to see how WR depth rounds out, as well as OL and QB depth.
Defense is where the biggest changes will occur, obviously. We likely will have a minimum of 3 new starters; possibly more. I think the majority of people will be most interested in who will be at DE and OLB and if they will be the 'real deal'.
It's a lot of fun to watch the "no-names" and see if someone becomes a diamond in the rough.
Anxious to see if Moses walks on water. Betting on when Perry gets schooled by CMIII for doing the wrong thing. Wanting to see Gurley become manly and make the final 53. Wondering if ARod will throw a pick and if House will take it to the house. Watching the clock to see if CMIII has hammy issues -- again. Tossing a coin into the air to see who starts in the backfield.

So many story lines, so few practices... Big Grin
There were several coaches comments in the article linked by sschumer that talked about GB playing more dime packages than in the past.

I think the limitations of some LBs to cover was an issue last year so it makes sense to take one off the field and replace with a better coverage option

When GB goes to a dime line-up, they can mix and match extra CBs and safeties

Woodson
Williams
Shields
Burnett

Then choose 2 players from the lists below based on opponent and down & distance:

Hayward
House

Peprah
McMillian
Jennings
Bush

The moment I go through the cable guide and set my DVR to record the Family Night scrimmage, I feel like all is right with the world. Yes, I'm that starved for Packer football that I'll record the scrimmage.

I try to watch the first Quarter or 2 of every pre-season game that's on no matter who it is. I am an NFL addict.

There are only two good reasons not to watch the whole game, one is going to work and two is if the wife or girlfriend wants some intimacy with you, give her five minutes of your valuable game time, then you must decide what to do with the last four minutes, cuddle or go back to the game.

Well we're talking non-Packer pre-season games here. For example, let's say it's the Jaguars vs. Colts in pre-season. I may watch a quarter or 2 while the starters are in, but admittedly, even as much of an NFL addict as I am, I probably won't watch the scrubs for the Jaguars and Colts battle it out in the second half.

Packer pre-season is a different story. I DVR each one and watch every snap and might even re-watch the game if there's anything particularly interesting about it.
I don't want to start a new thread but I'll put it here.

Maybe I'm different than a lot of you, but the end of last year was such a gut punch that frankly, I haven't really watched any of last season. Not the NFL films season in review, not any of the game replays on NFLN.

I was pretty numb, for lack of a better word, the last 3 quarters of the Giants game. As much as I knew they could pull it out and I didn't want to be negative, you just knew. You knew something was up that day, that game, that 3 hours. It just was different. From the first drive of the game.

And, my brain basically shut off all of 2011. I haven't posted much in the off season for much of this reason. It was such a disappointing end that I didn't want to dwell on any of it.

Then, I went and opened up the video of Rodgers being the #1 player in the NFL this morning. I watched the SB replay I DVRd couple weeks ago.

I can't state this emphatically enough. I am so jacked about this upcoming season. I am more jacked about this year than even last.

Bill Simmons talked about the "Eff You" factor that the 2007 Patriots had post spygate. They went "Us vs the World" and they wanted to prove everyone how good they were. And they crushed people. They "ran up the score". They didn't care what others thought. I want to believe that the Packers are in that mode. Secretly. Amongst themselves. I really want to believe that the leaders of this team are still absolutely pissed off that they let back to back SBs slip through their fingers. And, I think they are there. I don't think I'm projecting here.

But, bottom line I can't wait to see the 2012 Green Bay Packers.

Our offense should be better. Think about that for a second. Cobb with another year. Finley healthy and (hopefully) with his head straight. Saturday anchoring the line. The best player in the NFL. Every DC in the NFL should be scared to death of this offense. Anything under averaging 30 pts a game will be a surprise.

Our defense has to be better. I mean it has to. I'm not asking for the 2000 Ravens. Even 2010 Packers would be enough. Please.

****ing Awesome post CAPackFan,

They are loaded for bear this season and I suspect you are right- secretly they are planning to atone for last year.

And while its only a small thing, I did see a note yesterday suggesting that all of the Packer players were going to stop using Twitter till the season was over. I'd like to see that happen

Just focus on the Trophy hunt and put all the distractions aside

The key for this team is to keep building momentum so they are red hot by the time January rolls around and carry it into February

Go Packers
It's so hard to win a SB so I'm trying really hard to temper the excitement.

I agree 100% that this team knows it's loaded and anythingless than a trip to N.O. would be a big disappointment. I think they are far more pissed off about the playoff loss than we're being told. They should be.

I love the fact that they open the season with 49'ers. Send a message.

This year can't start soon enough.
I posted the 2010 highlight video in The Journey thread. The DL was huge that season (pressure, hits, sacks) and basically invisible last. Thompson saw that and brought in (drafted/signed FA) about 10 new guys.

This and skeet shooting team build will be the difference.

If Rodgers is upright for 15 or 16 games, I really think this team wins a minimum of 12 games or more in the regular season assuming there isn't an incredible rash of injuries like in 2010 that hit key players.

The Pack will have to improve in a number of areas to get through a playoff gauntlet. I'll be watching the LT, RDE, LOLB, and S position opposite of Burnett during pre-season and camp. If they find guys to effectively fill those spots, the sky is the limit for the 2012 Pack.

The Packers DL really had a down year in 2011 and it apparently impacted the LBs significantly as well

Matthews production was down, Hawks' production was down, Walden was down etc.

And I think it all points back to the DL and getting zero contribution from Jolly, Harrell, Neal and Jenkins was a blow they just couldn't overcome

Things look much more promising for 2012 on the DL and it should improve the LB production as well
