Sometimes, like watching games like this one, stuffing a hot poker up my ass feels like a massage with a happy ending.

Guh. That ****ing boob absolutely mailed it in that night. Thanks, Brent.

Still, a few good things came out of that game. It was the end of Brent, as the GBP knew it was over with him. POSanders would have given up about 58 in that SB to the undefeated juggernaut. Brent would've quite possibly laid one of his all-time turd games in that SB. It was the dawn of AR. It was also IMHO the night MM took a big step towards growing up as a coach.
Who knows what would have happened in the Super Bowl. Vastly inferior teams like the Jets (4-12), Ravens (5-11) and the AJ Feeley led Eagles (8-8) came within inches of beating the Patriots that year, they weren't nearly as good as they were made out to be. I think that BrINT would have retired if he had managed to win XLII, his main driving force at that time was to break records and to go out on top.
I called my buddy at halftime. We discussed 2 things. Sanders needs to help Al Harris on Plaxico & benching Brett Favre.

He called me crazy but then I told him to think back to the game vs. the Cowboys that year. We were both at the game in Dallas. He said MM doesn't have the balls to bench Favre.

I don't know if we would've won the game, but I do know Rodgers would've given the Giants fits.

The best would've been Rodgers starting the Super Bowl vs. the undefeated Pats and beating them.

Oh what could have been....Smiler
Winning the Super Bowl last year made it easier to watch that replay. I was flipping back and forth between that and the NCAA snoozer so I didn't see all the plays, but there were 3 plays that stuck out more than the others.

Jackson running up on the blockers on the screen. That was a walk in TD had he been patient.

Bush not falling on the damn ball on the punt.

Obviously Favre's pick when multiple guys were open. I remembered seeing the other guys open from the pics online, but I hadn't actually seen the play in a long time. Man, that was just an awful, awful throw.
I had completely forgotten the pick in OT was on 2nd down.

Looking at that play again he should have just held onto the ball. He could have easily gotten 5 or 6 yards if he would have just pulled that thing down, and dove forward.

Then again why do you even ponder passing? You can take a knee and try to pick it up on 3rd down!!! THIS ISN'T DETROIT MAN THIS IS THE SUPER BOWL!!!!!
I don't fault Favre because "there were so many other guys open" on that INT. The screen shots I've seen are taken when he's already in his throwing motion. Those other guys were not open until he was already in the process of throwing that pass.

What I do fault him for is locking on Driver and throwing a crappy ball even though he wasn't open. You can see his eyes locked on DD from the snap - something I'm sure Nate Webster saw too.
I was also bugged by his Eli hug after the game. If I remember right, he didn't talk after the game so I saw that as a bit of a mugging for the camera thing. At the time I really thought this would be the last time the Pack would get that close in awhile (I know several on here knew all along that AR would be this good and TT would draft jeenyus). I really thought he would have been more devastated.

I had never seen that until the replay last night. You can also hear him say to Eli "Hey I'm proud of ya".

Big deal. It's called being a good sport. If he had said something snarky he would have been crucified.

Our D-line was jumping offsides like crazy in that game, too.

I see the forcast calls for a low of 5 and a high of 21. I sure hope we have learned to use that to our advantage! Too many guys in that previous game looked like they couldn, thandle the cold...being out hustled on that fumble, etc.
I haven't seen the game in awhile, but I'm just curious, who actually played well for the Pack in that game? It's actually kind of surprising they even were in it all. I just remember Jacobs and Bradshaw having their way with the Pack's defense, and also Burress having his way with Harris. I remember the dumb penalty by Collins. I don't remember the Pack being able to run much at all. How in the Hades did the Pack stay in the game?

Was there anyone that really stood out and played well? I was just curious because I don't remember anyone really showing up for the Pack that day.
Interesting.....

It seems TT was "crushed" after the NFC CG loss.

quote:
"I'm crushed," Thompson said that night. “A lot of people thought we were a surprise team. We felt we were good enough to win week-in and week-out and have a chance to go play for the world championship. And we're not going to get to do that now."

This is from Jason Wilde.

More & more insight from this game {& that timeframe} slowly leaks out, like we knew it would.

Damn TT for not trading Favre to the Vikings for a slew of draft picks

Damn MM for not benching Favre after halftime.

Aaron Rodgers would've destroyed the Patriots in the Super Bowl.

DAMN IT!!!

Ok, I'm ready to go win another World Championship Smiler

Giants missed 2 field goals plus there was the Favre pick that the Giants fumbled and Packers recovered. They got a field goal out of that one. The long Driver TD pass was one of the few highlights. Although, had they scored on that screen pass to end the half the Packers probably would have won the game.

Al Harris really did get abused as badly as you remember.
