Injuries:
packers
Not practicing: Marc Tyler, Mike Daniels, Tori Gurley, Eric Lair, Mike McCabe, rest of PUP

jasonjwilde
Not sure what happened as I was at the other end of the field, but #Packers guard Ray Dominguez was carted off the field moments ago.

WesHod
Alex Green didn't look to be held back in the slightest on last run, explosive and decisive

Atmosphere:
MikeVandermause
It's 82 degrees but with no sun on field like morning practices, it doesn't feel that hot. Perfect evening for football.

MikeVandermause
Stands are packed for first evening practice with lots of fans standing. Estimated attendance: 2000.

RobDemovsky
There's always a certain buzz at the #Packers night practices. Maybe it's the lights.

WesHod
Daniel Muir is excited...to say the least. Rodgers raved about his emotion in locker room

CBSSportsNFLGB
Daniel Muir just roared "YEAHHH! LET'S GO!!" on defensive stop. He's a big energy, "juice" guy. Clearly.

WesHod
Worthy Raji in on dime and we have scuffle

RobDemovsky
Fracas started with House pushing Sitton. Bad matchup

MikeVandermause
Getting a little chippy out here. Nothing more than pushing and shoving. How long before first full scale fight?

ZachHeilprin
Chants of MVP greet Aaron Rodgers as he moves to the north end of the practice field.

Drills and Skills:

RobDemovsky
Working on a lot of special situations today. First, taking a safety on purpose. Now leaving base defense on the field vs. punt.

CBSSportsNFLGB
Randall Cobb reliving his quarterbacking days from Alcoa (Tenn.) H.S. throwing corner-route end zone passes to receivers.

Lining Up:
ZachHeilprin
As Joe Whitt promised Jarrett Bush back working with the starters tonight.

CBSSportsNFLGB
Cobb, Nelson, Borel and Smithson back returning punts. No Tramon.

MikeVandermause
No. 2 O line in individual drills: LT Andrew Datko. LG Tommie Draheim. C Dietrich Smith. RG Ray Dominguez. RT Herb Taylor.

ZachHeilprin
Jerel Worthy getting work with the 1st team in their base defense. Likely just being cautious with Pickett.

RobDemovsky
Capers using one of his unique sub packages today with one DL and a bunch of LBs and DBs.

CBSSportsNFLGB
Merling rushing from a standing position on that last play.

In the Trenches:
RobDemovsky
Of all the things I expected to see in #Packers camp, Greg Van Roten going undefeated in 1on1s wasn't on the list but the rookie G is 9-0

MikeVandermause
Bulaga gets best of Erik Walden during blocking drill.

TyDunne
B.J. Raji beats Sampson Genus badly in combo blocking drill. Coaches letting guys compete more. Some decent contact.

TyDunne
Bryan Bulaga still doing a solid job on Nick Perry. Rookie not getting much pressure today.

TyDunne
Andrew Datko toasted by Dezman Moses on final play. He's been struggling of late.

CBSSportsNFLGB
Mike Neal is quick and looks ferocious on pass rushing drill.

CBSSportsNFLGB
Dietrich-Smith just threw Lawrence Guy to the ground on pass rush drill. The next play, Muir trashes Barclay, then Sitton stonewalls his man

MikeVandermause
Newhouse holds off charging Matthews.

MikeVandermause
Moses continues to look good in pass rush drills.

RobDemovsky
And the Greg Van Roten streak is over. Finally lost a 1 on 1 rep, to Mike Neal but it was close

PeteDougherty
1on1 rush/block muir has best D snap, hump move throws Barclay out of way

PeteDougherty
Bulaga stones perry per usual

PeteDougherty
Raji beats Barclay n draheim n Lang to go 3-0

WesHod
Rodgers gets sacked by combo of Matthews and I believe Worthy

Jennings Focused and Dominating:
It was noted yesterday that Davon House got the better of Greg Jennings by stripping the ball from him after a reception and then throwing him to the ground. Tonight Jennings re-established his alpha role in the Pack.

ZachHeilprin
Davon House just toasted on a double move by Jennings.

WesHod
Jennings burns House on route during one on ones. Fist bumps afterward

WesHod
Coleman with a beauty corner pocket end zone pass to Jennings for a TD catch

CBSSportsNFLGB
Nice pass by Coleman, terrific TD catch by Jennings on end zone fade. Very pretty.

ZachHeilprin
Back shoulder throw to Jennings for a TD against House. Looked familiar to the TD he had in the opener last year.

ZachHeilprin
Jennings having a huge night....catches another long TD on a free play after the defense jumped offsides.

ZachHeilprin
And the final play of the no-huddle portion is another TD to Jennings...I count 4 of them tonight.

MikeVandermause
Rodgers to Jennings over Shields and Burnett for TD. Pinpoint pass.

ZachHeilprin
Greg Jennings puts a move on Bush that causes him to almost do the splits.

Spotlight on Shields:

WesHod
Sam Shields did a whale of a job on gunner Curenski Gilleylen during last punt

CBSSportsNFLGB
Sam Shields is working his a$$ off in this punt coverage drill blocking the gunner. Seems to be embracing special teams as meal ticket.

MikeVandermause
Shields next man up behind Cobb on kick returns.

PeteDougherty
Shields gambles on out to TE Bostick, just misses breakup, turns into20yard TD

RobDemovsky
That's the kind of mistake Shields can't make, broke on an out route and missed and TE Lair caught a 17 yard TD from Harrell.

ZachHeilprin
There's a sight rarely seen....Sam Shields filling the hole and bringing Alex Green down on the spot.

Passes and Catches:
CBSSportsNFLGB
Cobb so nifty and shifty in small spaces. Caught a screen out of the slot, juked a defender in the flat and gained about 10 yards.

ZachHeilprin
Nelson grabs one from Harrell with Davon House all over him. Then Smithson goes up over Shields to haul one in.

TyDunne
Aaron Rodgers goes right at Jarrett Bush first play in team. Up left sideline on play action. About 40-50 yards.

CBSSportsNFLGB
Jarrett Bush just got beat, burned on Jordy Nelson's patented double move. That's the liability with Bush, never been great cover corner.

WesHod
From the what it's worth dept, Rodgers was 7 of 9 on ones drive, finishing with diving goal line catch by Finley

RobDemovsky
Finley with his best catch of camp, laying out for a TD on a goal line play.

TyDunne
Rodgers went 7 of 9 in team segment. Harrell was 6 of 9. Diff is Rodgers willingness to drive it downfield more. Harrell hesitant at times.

TyDunne
In 7 on 7: Coleman hits Moss for TD in corner of end zone. T. Williams turns around on slant, misses pick on Rodgers.

WesHod
Been impressed with both Harrell and Coleman tonight. Both appear very poised throughout. No picks today so far in team

ZachHeilprin
In goal line action...Finely catches a quick slant for a TD. Really can't defend that.

CBSSportsNFLGB
Graham Harrell shows why he's not Aaron Rodgers with pass into the dirt on back-shoulder endzone throw. Pats self on chest, says "my fault."

CBSSportsNFLGB
Then Coleman with pretty fade pass for TD

TyDunne
Unbuckled chinstrap and all, Coleman hits Boykin for TD in red zone to end practice. A lot on his mind i guess. Off to MM.

Tips and Snatches:
WesHod
Tramon Williams looking good, breaks up big heave from Rodgers in man coverage again Nelson. Jordy catch would've been a long 6

We'll Clean That Up:
RobDemovsky
Not the best way to start practice: penalty on first play of team. Looked like false start from own 2 yard line

MikeVandermause
Worthy offsides. Coaches not happy.

CBSSportsNFLGB
Neal too quick, flagged for offsides. He's outraged by call, defense boos ref.

Odds and Ends:

TyDunne
Jamari Lattimore quietly doing a nice job at ILB. Strings out Bennett at the goal line for a loss.

CBSSportsNFLGB
Jamari Lattimore had to get bigger, esp now as an ILB. Looks like he did. Nice pursuit, run stop just now.

MikeVandermause
Moses slams Saine to turf. Emphatic Tackle for loss.

Video:
Packers practice 4-minute drill: Brandon Saine, meet Dezman Moses.

TyDunne
House and Shields both beat for big gains in no-huddle. Not a great day for the corners.

MikeVandermause
Practice ends after 2 hours 39 minutes.

Wonder if he's motivated by Diggr's "bust" comments over the years. All kidding aside, Raji really declined last year so it's promising to hear he might be on the rebound. Wilde says he worked on boxing drills in the off-season. Maybe that helped.

He had a little bit of thinking he'd arrived and a little bit of being worn down by too many plays, imo. They leaned heavily on him last year.
I think we need to be patient with the defense this year, too. There are a lot of things to fix, a lot of younger players that aren't going to be exactly sure what they're supposed to do all the time, and a lot of game lessons to be learned. Young guys going to the wrong gap or playing the wrong technique will lead to some big plays.

Bush is what he is. A special teams ace, a strong practice guy and a guy with a deficiency for locating the ball in the air.
I think when the secondary shakes out we're looking at Tramon, and then a combination of Shields, House, and Hayward for the next two spots.

We already know Shields limitations and the other two are going to have their bumps. Unless you're a special player you don't come into the NFL at CB and play a consistent 16 games in your first or second year.

I do think it's to our advantage that the team knows going into this year what kind of defense they're putting on the field. Last year they were in denial about how poor they were and they thought they could turn it on. It's going to be interesting to see how the defensive leaders take to helping the young guys along.
My lowbrow comment/reiteration of Titmfatied's post:

In 2010, the team performance wasn't at its supreme during preseason. The team needed to evolve. It did, the performance at the end of the year was exemplary and the result was a Lombardi trophy that finally came home. Moving forward, I think we expected the defense to evolve in 2011, and it JUST DIDN'T HAPPEN! I like that the faces are likely to change in 2012. I like that the faces that don't change will have a different attitude. All of this will result in play quality that will have to change with time. Throw in inevitable injuries, and one should quickly conclude that the journey this year will be bumpy.

I am stoked.
Geez, this is a good thread. Thanks, guys.

Gotta admit Bush scares the bejesus out of me. I'm praying for Hayward.

Sounds like Shields and House are serving too much toast. Bush is a given. I can only hope it's quiet about Hayward because they're staying away from his side of the field.
If there's a bright side to the plays being given up by House, Shields, Hayward, and Bush it's the players they are trying to stop.

The toughest competition those guy's are going to face this year will be in practice.

IF this kid ever stays healthy you will name your dogs after him.

IF is right. Even then, I think some of us got pretty excited over the guy after one good game early in his career (at Washington??) We'll need Neal and the rest of them to get the job done on the front this year for sure. He seems like a really good dude and I hope he succeeds.
Bush looked good at practice. He was clearly with the first team. Hayward was the 5th CB from what I saw.

AR to Jennings and AR to Nelson is some pretty tough competition for sure. No DB is going to look great against them.

I remember Bush doing the splits vs. a broken down Hines Ward too.

I don't care what anybody says. Bush is a liability on Sunday. It doesn't matter how well he practices. 7 friggin years. Gimme a break with this guy already & keep him on Special Teams and only for depth in the defensive backfield.

The one thing he really has going for him is he's available (not hurt)
