Quarless, Perry, Bish, Sherrod...

If these guys come back and are key contributors, watch out.

I fear Bish and Sherrod are the longest of shots...Sherrod more so.

Perry should be just fine...it was merely a wrist. And Quarless, it's been 18 months, and they talk about ACL and MCL...but really, it's just the ACL. Guys tear MCL's all the time...not a huge deal. If it was PCL, I'd be a lot more concerned.

Took a long time to heal is my concern. No fault of his own but it's pretty bad when you start healing incorrectly and have to go back for a second round. Obviously worse than expected. He may come out of it but it's a long road. Here's to hoping he's the next Flanigan.

Overall, I'm just glad Uncle Ted didn't trade all 4 of them for 7th rounders.

Length of his rehab and the fact it required an additional surgery.

Could be a couple of reasons why 2 surgeries were necessary...scenario 1 could be it was done improperly the first time and stuff needed to be corrected. Scenario 2 could be Sherrod didn't work hard enough rehabbing, and excess scar tissue developed and it had to be cleaned out. Scenario 3, his body healed the wrong way.

Also, he's a big dude...lot of weight, pressure and torque on that knee.
gutlessly predicting he wins the starting LT position

And given the relatively small investment the Packers made in LTs on draft day - I'd say the Packers are planning for the same thing

Did I miss something? He broke both bones in his lower leg. Don't recall any knee issues.
I wouldn't call them surprises, but at least hopefulls.

We need something out of Perry and I think we will get it.

Bishop? Well I hope he can come back, it seems there is some question but I guess I have some too. I wouldn't mind a strong showing at all. Wink

Quarless - We need something from the investment. I have a feeling we will be happy with him ultimately.

Sherrod - I don't know. His injury was terrible and he wasn't playing perfectly before that... like anyone I hope he can be at LEAST servicable. My best wishes for him. The Flanny references are relevant. It takes time from something like that... to even come back from a compound break to play professional NFL football would be beyond impressive.

I would add the likes of Neal, who we didn't have for a good portion of last year. Moses, who didn't get a good chance. Add in Manning.. beast but infection and such held him back. Maybe Barclay is strong with his experience or even Datko's shoulder is healed.

There is going to be plenty of intrigue.

Both bones requiring two surgeries.

Woodson broke a bone in a leg at a more advanced age, playing a less forgiving position for lower leg trauma and he turned out OK.

No direct parallel obviously, but it's way too soon to be writing him off.

If Sherrod comes on, and we (shareholder) aren't forced to Bulaga to LT I think we'll be better off long term.

The thing I worry about regarding the second procedure is if it was because the broken bones were not getting enough blood flow.
Didn't somebody else besides Flannigan go through this? Perhaps an ankle injury, if memory serves...
I think Packer fans have glamorized Quarless's contributions when he was healthy. I hope he can come back and be a good blocking 2nd TE who maybe ends the year with 20 catches.
I agree on Quarles. I remember his share of dropped passes. They signed Mulligan as a straight forward blocking TE. Quarles is just another in the host of TEs that needs to prove themselves.

The knockdown on the hillbilly was pretty glamorous !

I think Quarless' addition to the offense brings more than just stats- the presence of 2 TEs that may stay in to block and may go out to pass is what puts so much pressure on a defense.

If they cover with LBs that's good in the run game, but bad in pass. If the defense opts to cover with DBs that's good for pass, but lousy for run. Few defenses have 2 guys perfectly suited to handle TEs

To me, that's the value of 2 versatile TEs- the defense doesn't know what they are going to do on any play- and at least one of the defensive mensa's is going to make a mistake
not certain either, but some actions may give hints

The Packers just made 12 draft picks and nary a TE was selected despite Finley's imminent departure

Does that offer any hints about Quarless' outlook for 2013 ?
I'm not really one for being overly optimistic but I firmly believe this year's defense has more potential pass rush talent than in any year I can remember under MM and TT, even the Superbowl year.

They've got guys that can do it any number of ways and from any number of angles and from any level of the defense.

If the offense can give them a cushion this year I have a lot of faith that there's going to be a ton of pressure put on the QB, the turnovers will come with it, and Capers is going to have a bit of a resurgence with the kind of blitzes they'll be able to run.

I'm guilty of irrational exuberance when it comes to the Packers; and I agree with your assessment. Even without Perry for 10 games, GB still managed to be a top 5 team in sacks/game and sacks % in 2012- a huge leap forward from the dismal 2011 performance. Stats don't tell the whole story, but being top 5 in these categories AND adding more talent bodes well for the upcoming season
