It looks to me that about 2/3 of the teams in the league spend more on offense, or about equally on offense versus defense.    A lot of those teams were the best in the league as well.   Sure, Indy and Baltimore and MN spent as much if not more on D, but it follows the trend(s) in the league where offense is stressed or viewed as more important than defense.   The really good teams usually have an elite QB and very good offensive tackles and those positions tend to be some of the highest paid on the roster next to good pass rushers.
