It was announced today that Middleton will miss the opener this week. It's not surprising, but given the Bucks are notorious for not disclosing much about injury returns, hopefully this isn't something where he's sitting until January.

The Bucks bench guys have not looked good in the pre-season and they can't be leaning on Giannis, Dame, Lopez, and Trent Jr. to play big minutes just to eke out some wins the first half of the season.

Middleton was actually the most healthy out of their big 3 in the playoffs last year.

The biggest problem the Bucks have is not Middleton's health. It's their complete failure to develop even a fringe rotation player from their draft picks over the better part of the last decade. They were able to find Brogdon in Round 2 in 2016 and DDV in 2018 (but only received the corpse of Ibaka when they dealt him).

Other than that their first round picks since Giannis have been DJ Wilson, Beauchamp, Thon Maker, Jabari Parker, and Rashard Vaughn. Their second round picks other than Brogdon haven't hit either. You don't have to get a player from every pick, but not getting anything from the draft from the last 12 years has caught up to them. They gave up a huge portion of their draft assets for about a 12 year period to get Holiday and then Lillard, but they still should have gotten something from the picks they did use.
