Kids high school Marching Band finished 6th in state! Last year they were 16th. So damn proud of the improvements the whole program had. Was a long ass day yesterday, but only got 1 year left of this, so I'm soaking in every possible moment (Still hoping the one on the left joins marching band in college)

Got 3 consulting projects already lined up for next year that will be stupid easy, money, and miles on United. A week in Shanghai, 10 days in Milan, and 12 days in Sydney

Said in game thread. They laid an egg. It happens. It's a bummer as it could have really made the division a fait accompli, but still in drivers seat there.

I got my blower and chains on the tractor.

Sometimes football is a really simple game. The Chargers were able to put heavy pressure on Rodgers all game despite almost never blitzing. I think I read somewhere where the Chargers blitzed once of twice all game.
When you can put that much pressure on a QB with 4 guys rushing and the WRs/TEs don't get great separation to start with, it's going to be a long day for any offense. The few times Rodgers got time and tried to take some shots downfield, there was zero separation by any of the WRs.
Getting a great pass rush with 4 guys consistently is how great teams win. Like the 1996 Packers and the Giants teams that beat the Patriots in the Super Bowl twice as underdogs.
I know many are pointing out that at least the rest of the NFC North lost and GB didn't lose any ground, but this was a game that should have been an easy win that created even more space between Pack and Queens. I read that Adam's was targeted 11 times today. Hope 12 doesn't go back to focusing on Tae alone. The offense looked great the past couple of weeks with Rodgers spreading the ball around.
Will also be Interesting to see if MLF has the same level of loyalty to inept assistants as MM. Menninga is in way over his head. Hope the new boss ain't the same as the old boss.

My grades for today:
Defense: D-
You could make a good case for an F, but the red zone D in the first half at least kept them in striking defense. It's a D- but about as close to a F as you can get. They were pathetic and I wouldn't argue an F grade but I'm in a more forgiving mood now than I was couple hours ago.
Special Teams: F. The only reason I'm not giving them an F- is Crosby's long FG make.
Offense. F. I want to give them an F- but since they didn't turn the ball over much, I'll be a nice guy and just leave it at a straight F. The O-Line was frighteningly bad, Rodgers looked tentative and shaky with lots of soft inaccurate throws off his back foot, the WRs were poor, you name it, pretty much every part of the offense sucked horribly.

+ When I was on active duty I remember a training exercise that was a complete FUBAR. But the Sargent Major was smiling and excited. He said β That was great training!β Thats my positive for the game. I believe that the team can learn from this. I was surprised that we were 7-1 before this game. I believe that a team can learn a lot about itself from adversity.

The only "easy" game the Packers have all season should be the Redskins.
The Patriots and Bills get 4 automatic wins against the Jets and Dolphins. Other than those 3, almost everyone else in the NFL is capable of beating anyone on a good day (especially at home).
The Falcons without Matt Ryan are close to the Jets/Dolphins/Redskins level.

I agree. Technically they lost no ground. Idk if this should've been an easy W, but it should've been a W nonetheless. This was a great opportunity after the Queens loss today. Could have picked up a full game on everyone in the North. The Chargers played a great game in both trenches. Much credit to them. But failing to establish Jones as a threat imo is what led to AR zeroing in on 17. As a result the entire offense was off kilter for what was already a struggling o-line. We can't go by Adams being back for one game, but it's something to keep an eye on. AR and the offense go as Jones and Jamaal go. Their threat opens up everything. The offense can't be run well if it goes through Rodgers' favorite target. Everyone suffered because of that today. The very opposite of what many of us believed would happen.

A poor choice of words, perhaps, but certainly most would expect the Packers would win, they were pretty healthy favorites in Vegas. GB won on the road in Chicago, Dallas and KC, so facing a 2-5 team in a stadium that was more like a home than road venue brought reasonable expectations for a win.
This is what a sleepwalking team looks like.
The Chargers defense looked quite a bit better than their ranking. The Packers OL played like it was a preseason game.
The good thing is two of the best OTs in football got their asses kicked today- and donβt think theyβre going to let it happen again. This was the culmination of a team that had been winning with smoke and mirrors- Bend but donβt break defense and an offense that was getting more and more reliant on RBs. LAC jammed this up the Packers ass today. If they have championship mettle, theyβll use it.
Maybe this wasnβt so surprising
San Diego has beaten themselves a lot this year. All of their 5 losses were within a TD, so maybe the 3-5 record was a bit deceiving.
Rivers is Rivers, Allen and Williams are a good WR tandem, Hunter at TE is solid, good OL, decent RBs. On defense, Bosa and Ingram are as good of a 1-2 punch at DE/OLB as there is and their corners are very good. Simply put, the Chargers have enough talent to win a number of games.
The biggest negative, IMO:
Losing ground to the 49ers, Saints, and Seahawks.
Every year, we lose a game that puts us on the outside looking in for playoff HFA. This game was likely the one for this year.
Chargers are obviously better than their record. I think all their losses this year have been by less than 6pts.
The loss isn't a big deal. I didn't see them getting HFA as I don't think they're currently in the same league as SF and NO. Winning the north should still be possible. But the most troubling part is just how they looked yesterday, especially on O. On D, it was much the same problems they've had all year, minus the turnovers. Shoddy tackling, losing the LOS, soft middle. Not solving those problems will get you a quick ticket home after the first week of the playoffs. On offense MLF either forgot everything he learned the last couple weeks or LAC figured him out already. This next game could be a hinge point in the season.
Tschmack posted:Maybe this wasnβt so surprising
It wasn't surprising that LAC won. It was surprising that the Pack did not show up, it was surprising that they did not have an answer for anything, zippo adjustments for 60 minutes, no sense of urgency coming out after the half. I watched this standing up, in a crowded, noisy Packer Bar so I may have missed some nuances but I can't recall of anyone from GB who played well.
+++ The drive in which we scored the TD was the bright spot on offense. It was, however, too little, too late. Mason Crosby looked good. His 54 yard FG was right down the middle. No real injuries, to speak of, except for maybe Allison? Did he have a concussion on that catch that he got smacked? The vikings lost. Aaron Rodgers may have had a better game passing the ball than Cousins did. I said may have had. Glad we did not lose ground to any of the teams in the NFC North.
--- Our O Line was porous. Everyone who wanted a piece of Rodgers seemed to get one. Our Run Defense is nonexistent. All opposing teams need to do is run straight ahead. There will be a hole waiting for their RBs and our LBs will be waiting for them 6-7 yards downfield, if then. ARod running the clock to zero before the snap. Another delay of game penalty! Jaire could have used some Safety help on that big pass play. Our STs took lessons in blocking from our O Line. Porous! Opie should have gotten that punt away. Stupid penalties buried us deep in our own territory, most of the game. Where's the discipline? Truly, this was a horrible game played by the Packers. Some one said it before: This was 1970s Packers on the field. Next year's draft and FA period should be intriguing.
Dr._Bob posted:- I was entirely sober the entire game.
Yeah me too. The game was a buzz killer.
Defense did a decent job initially of keeping the team in it but the offense never did show up. Ultimately an abject failure in all three phases. Interesting to see how the team responds on Sunday against a pretty good Panther team.
This team will live and die by the level of performance of the offensive line. Most of the other failures today were things weβve been seeing all year: shabby special teams; porous defense; inconsistency from the receivers. Solid play by the o- line has enabled them to overcome it with a good running game and giving AR time to do his thing. Today the O-line didnβt show up. Credit to the LAC defense but the pressure and intensity is only going increase from here. Packers are going to have elevate their play to meet it if they expect to do more than just get a playoff slot this year. The rookie coach is going to have some bumps. How he responds from here should tell a lot about what a realistic expectation might be.
hard to win a game when the Oline takes the day off.
I don't so much mind getting gashed on D if they hold them to FGs.
Blocked punt was the dagger.
Hoping AR hasn't gone back to only seeing Davante.

- MLF not adjusting to the fact that tackles were getting beat. It was very "we do what we do" like. Should have adjusted by the 2nd quarter when it was apparent these guys were getting home every snap.

Great points.
1. I like the Packers chances more often than not if the game comes down to how well Bakh and Bulaga play. Bosa made them look like Jason Spriggs was out there. Usually they are considered the best tandem of pass blocking OTs in the league. Hopefully it's just a one off.
2. The defense was atrocious outside the red zone, but as bad as they were between the 20s, the two TDs they gave up happened because of special teams blunders. The blocked punt set up a 27 TD drive and the other TD occurred after they forced a FG and the special teams had an offsides penalty. Even then, 26 points should not be insurmountable and if the offense does anything the Chargers have fewer drives to kick FGs. The defense certainly didn't make plays to win the game, but they played well enough to keep the team in it.
3. Adams is the only WR/TE they have that is good enough to win 1x1 consistently off the line of scrimmage. They could barely protect Rodgers on 3 step drops so he has to go to a guy he knows can get separation. Allison, Lazard, and Kumerow are basically the same type of player - possession receivers that can find holes in zones when they have time to run a route. The OL simply didn't do enough to make that possible yesterday.
4. If Carolina dominates Bakh and especially Bulaga like the Chargers did, they'll win also. If Bakh and Bulaga play like they did against the Raiders, the Packers may win in a route. If any team can get that much pressure from just their front four, they are very likely to win. I think it was Demosky that tweeted yesterday that the Chargers blitzed just once in the first 22 Packers dropbacks. Despite that, it seemed like Rodgers was just overwhelmed every time he dropped back.

McCaffrey and Greg Olson are tough on the LBs for any defense.
Pettine has to make sure that someone other than McCaffrey beats them. You may have to let Savage mirror McCaffrey all over the field.
Bad losses happen to every team, every year.
All 3 division members lost as well.
Hit the panic button at your own peril. Move on.
A lot of my thoughts have already been stated above, but here are a couple of items not mentioned:
- What a lousy excuse for an NFL stadium. The scoreboards seemed on perpetual "delay" and the sound guys seemed to pipe in Charger fan noise. Ugh!
- I couldn't tell from the stadium replays, but it seemed that they ran into Scott on the blocked punt. Did they cover this on WTMJ or on CBS?
- We kept waiting for some "adjustments" but, there were none.
- Wasted $300 per ticket! It was really lame.

I thought it was legal to hit a punter after the ball is blocked. Hitting a punter is only illegal if the ball is untouched. That's how I always understood it at least. Someone can correct me if my interpretation of that play is wrong.

Exactly what I was thinking. Like him or hate him, Belichick is a master at taking away his opponents biggest threat, usually with great success. Bottling up McCaffrey will be key to beating Panthers. At the very least we won't have to see C. Newton trash talking CM3 before waltzing into the end zone.
