I have terrible internet living in a rural area so unfortunately I don't think streaming will be an option for me. My current speeds range between .6 and 2.5.
Have you considered feeding the hamster a more caffeine based diet?

We've tested the 3 concurrent streams of live TV on YTTV. It works. Once you get to 4, you'll get a message asking which stream you want to terminate. (Kill the wife's stream for fun 😁)
Zero lag. However....I do have very fast internet (300 down / 12 up). Haven't purchased the Docsis 3.1 cable modem yet for Gig speed. Still extracting extra value out of my Docsis 3.0 😉 which is capable of Gig speed but your provider has to allow it. Mine doesn't.
@13X if you're stuck in a Rural area, your best bet for TV is probably satellite. Which is still good, but you have to constantly "negotiate" with them once your "discounts" expire.
Turned in the receivers today. Find out I'm eligible for 200mbs internet so they gave me a new modem, for the same price as I was paying for 100.
Why didn't they tell me this before?

Get Elon Musk on the phone. Rural infrastructure just sucks. I think the only workable option is satellite and that's not great either.
For internet we have a small dish on the roof and the provider is Northeast Iowa Telephone. Fast and not too expensive. Had free installation and free equipment when we signed up. The tower is about 3 miles from where we live. Had Centurylink High Speed before that. Should have been called Nospeed.
I have had Charter for TV since the 1990's; really as far back as the late 1980's if I count the companies they consumed along the way. I've had their internet service since the 2000's. And I curse those bastards on a daily basis. 
My only other choice is AT&T, and I'm never dealing with those crooks again as long as I live.
I've been interested in changing to a streaming service, but don't want to have the lag during games. I do like the appeal of being able to choose channels as opposed to having to having to buy "packages".
I'm worried about the lag as well, but at least I won't have to with Wisconsin football games this fall.
Or NFL I'm fearing.

Centurylink is horrible. Possibly the WORST company, and I mean the company and how it operates, is Frontier. I had Verizon FIOS in Tampa, best internet ever. Frontier took over their FIOS division, total catastrophe across the city. Total shit company, service, fees, everything. It became a horrible service overnight. Brand new infrastructure, nothing changed, they completely tanked the service.
When I saw they were branching out into rural areas I cringed. They are like war profiteers and will sell you shit because you don't have many other options. Pay more then dealing with these fucks.
I curse my CenturyLink service repeatedly throughout the day. I can't believe the Seahawks ever connect on a pass in that stadium.

OTA for local channels would work for in-market games, TNF, and SNF.
Some of their sub-channels are pretty good, and best of all, it's free (other than an antenna?).
Streaming for out-of-market games, MNF, NFLN, and everything else.
You certainly could use OTA w/Streaming. Many do.

Yeah, I've used the speed test. Never hit 100, highest has been 80's, low 90's, even with the new "faster" 200mbs speed.
At least I'm not paying more for it, just had to swap out modems.
On the plus side, haven't had any issues. Fingers crossed....

That's exactly what I do. Had to get a pretty decent antenna to be able to pick up the local CBS station but I get about 30 channels for free with that including QVC and Home Shopping Network!

YouTube TV is nice, tons of sports and local channels, but it’s pricey now. I’ve been looking to ditch it because they have raised rates twice on me now, but nothing competes with content and quality at a lower price.
As far as a VPN, it’s easy. That said, you don’t really need it. Bilasport always has solid streams without all the pop ups. Just stream from there and cast it to your TV. Quality isn’t 1080 but it’s good enough.
Thanks all! Made the switch. Even at the $65/month price, I'm still saving close to $100 a month over cable.
So if they raise it a bit, I probably will stick as I'm still saving cash.

You knew YTTV was going to raise their prices after they caved to an agreement with Viacom/CBS (MTV, VH1, Comedy Central, etc.)
$65 is still light years better than paying cable or satellite $200 a month. Also quality of service. Zero lag, never a problem. 1080p (or pretty damn close).
Been rock solid for 10 weeks now. NFL Network? Yeah, maybe I'll find it somewhere IF the season starts. Seriously not missing it at all like I thought I would.
I switched to Youtube TV a few months ago. Not happy with the price increase, but still MUCH cheaper than Cable..and I get all of the channels I like. I kept the Xfinity Internet high speed. when I ran a test my DL was 46.8 and my upload was a 24.0. I have been very happy with Xfinity internet...only time it goes down is when someone cuts a line somewhere.

NFL network is nice but I personally wouldn't purchase RedZone. I never liked watching it, too scattered for me.
If the Packers aren't playing, RedZone is the only thing I watch on Sundays
NFL Network is live. The "sports tier" I'm going to rename it the "RZ Tier" because I can't believe anyone would subscribe to the other bullshit channels.

That's pretty unique. Not a lot of local/regional options still exist. The funny thing is the small guys always put out a superior product (real capitalism) but never seem to be able to expand because of shitbox companies like Centurylink (psuedo-capitalism/monopoly).
