The Colts are banking (literally) that 2015 was probably a fluke. And it probably was. But they got to get an OL to protect him or it really won't matter. The abdominal and other injuries that caused him to miss 9 games will continue.
It's the reality of today's NFL though. If you want a decent franchise QB, you have to pay a lot of money for it.
Manning winng a SB with Denver factors into this. Irsay trying to spend himself right.
Grigson was having a tough time building a solid roster before this. His job just got tougher. I don't think he's got the acumen to absorb something like this.
Luck isn't worth 140K. Over paying just because it is hard to find a QB is just over paying. Might as well have just stood at the top of the tallest building in Indy and throw the cash into the wind.
140M.
Ask the Browns or any other team without a real QB if they'd pay $140m for Luck and they'll ask "Check or EFT"?
Luck is worth it. Building a roster around him is the issue. Their Oline sucks, bad. I agree Grigson doesn't seem up to the task of actually building this team in a way that can utilize his talents and not get him killed at the same time.
Gives you an appreciation for good roster/cap management.
Should have let him go and played Tolzzzzzzzien
I think he's worth it, but only because that's going to soon become the going rate for franchise QBs. He's a good QB who, unfortunately, has had a bad team around him.
I think the only way Luck really fails is if Grigson gets him killed. After last year, that may be a literal possibility.
And, to be fair, they do seem to be more cognizant of that issue. They drafted Ryan Kelly (projected starting Center), Le'Raven Clark and Joe Haeg this year.
I'd like to say they've done even more, but the UDFA OG they signed is from Harvard, so we know he'll never amount to anything.
If Grigson ignored OL he would've been lynched so yeah, it was the right move. Let's see if he can balance the skill positions. He strikes me as a BONANZA! FA shopper.
Maybe, but he did claim bargain D'Qwell Jackson when he was released to shore up a very shaky ILB position, got a bunch of seventh-rounders for depth and let one of his (now) expensive TEs walk so he may be learning.
The Trent Richardson thing still makes me shake my head, though. That was truly a WTF? move.
