(our fourth) Got her a month ago at 9 weeks of age—-been years since we’ve had a puppy....they are work!
Chew, pee, bite, pee, chew, wake at 4:00 a.m. ....
Watching a new life is exhilarating and exhausting at the same time.

Apparently we will be joining this list soon. Early favorite is German Shepard. Our Yorkie had to be put down last summer.

Minnie does have “Penitentiary Face Syndrome “
My puppy is 12.5 years old and fading (Welsh Springer Spaniel). I hope she makes it another year. If I ever get another dog after her it will most likely be a shelter dog.There are several non-profits in this area that rescue dogs from other kill shelters who bring in dogs who otherwise would have been euthanized and puts them in foster homes until they are adopted. I check out their sites frequently and many of the dogs they have for adoption are very good looking and sound animals of all ages that would make wonderful pets. My previous dogs have been pure breeds and I have no problem with folks going that route. But now I'm thinking rescuing a dog would be best.
Those rat terrier/beagle/bulldog/St. Bernard/Golden/lab/guess mixes just seem to make really good dogs. It's all I've ever had, and they were all wonderful.
Our spayed female black lab/possible Tennessee treeing hound is our accidental rescue dog. Mr. QO bought her (cheap) from a Wis. farmer living near the twin cities. The farmer got her from some piece of sh-- a-hole in Minneapolis. The farmer wanted her pups, but not her. We could tell what kind of piece of sh-- a-hole had her by her fears. Severe case of submissive urination. Terrified of tall men in camo, etc. She is now an outside dog on our farm that is never tied up unless the farrier comes. (She gets too close to the horse.) Has gotten more comfortable around men. Instead of hiding, now sits by Mr. QO when he is about to shoot a varmint and will go fetch. She acts "happy" here. We will probably always go with shelter dogs from now on.
Again, BK, your puppy is SO CUTE! I could just love her up, and then hand her back after she pees on my pants. 
Nothing more gratifying than bringing pookie into the house after an hour of outside play...and she promptly pees on the rug. We have five area rugs in the house and she’s christened four...saving # 5 for a special occasion.
She understands how a rug really ties a room together.

Will be adding this little (for now) female Sheprador to our family around the end of June - beginning of July after weaned. She was the pick of the litter of 7.
Dad was the biggest, most intimidating GS I've ever seen. He was an import from Russia and owner had specifically trained him to be the protector of his property.
Mother was the most easy going chocolate Lab I've ever seen. Felt so bad for her seeing those 7 pups fighting over her teats. Her entire outer coat was gone from getting constantly clawed by the pups. At least we distracted them for a while while we visited and she got a break.

I don't think the kids have any idea of the work they have ahead of them. They missed out on the puppy phase of our Yorkie 12 years ago. A GS/Lab mix will be a whole different ballgame.
I'm already changing my sleep schedule to get up a little earlier in the morning. I know no one else in this house is going out for an early morning walk.
Like with other things in life, forgot how much work it is to "raise" a puppy.

We lost our best friend a few years back - HEARTBROKEN - wife said she would never get another dog ....talked her into the same breed.... in love again !!
Same here @Packdog. Was only a year for us but my wife swore she would never go through that again. She was ready again. 
Same boat as you two. We lost 1 of our dogs 6 months ago. We still have 2, so no rush to get a puppy 
Dang! I want a dog, but my other half keeps vetoing it. We have two cats, one a Savannah who doesn't mind dogs (even if he could take down a huge one in no time flat), and the other cat doesn't really like dogs. Still, I would get a dog if I could convince the ruler of the roost... so, keep those cute pics coming!
No new puppy for us yet after losing the Pug. But just another circle of life reminder: Went outside at lunch today to find our Boston Terrier making a meal out of some baby bunnies. One was spared, but he knows where the nest is. I caught him just as he was gulping down a furry hind leg.
Disgusting in a way, but he IS a terrier, and they eradicate rodents...
We let our cat out every day and just about every day he brings home a "present" to devour on the deck just outside the sliding glass doors. Bunnies, squirrels, chipmunks, once a gosling, etc., we have seen them all. He is a killing machine. But, we have no rodents in our yard and our neighbors cheer him on.
Our first cat back in the 90's was a master hunter. You name it, he would kill it and usually bring part of it back to us as a gift. One spring he found a nest of bunnies on the other side of our row of 5 townhouses. He was picking them off one at a time. The property owner came over to bitch at my wife about our cat and how their kids had been traumatized by hearing the bunnies screaming.
My wife said she would sit our cat down and have a talk with him about his behavior.
I had a teacher in high school who would tell us stories about his cat Kumba. Apparently Kumba brought home a friggin' owl one night. Of course, Sam (he wanted us to call him by his first name) also told us the cautionary tales of using LSD he heard as a kid. "There was a hippie couple that took LSD and they had a child who was born without knees", as he laughed and took a gulp of "tea".
First, the visual was hilarious. Secondly, the owl was probably a sparrow and he just happened to be trippin' balls.
The cat I had for 18 years wasn't much of a hunter but he'd take on all comers in his "space". Pit bulls, rottweilers, you name it. Nobody came into his house without permission.
I forgot.

Here's Skye at about 3 1/2 months yesterday. Up to about 28 lbs. I really thought she was going to keep the floppy lab ears but she went from that to a "Flying Nun" look for a few weeks and now they stand straight up when she is really focused on something. Lot of flap up / flap down looks these days.

28 lbs! What did she start at and how high is she headed? Our monster started at 4 lbs on 4/30 and checked in at 13 lbs yesterday.
She was a biscuit short of 10 lbs when we brought her home a little short of 8 weeks old. Pretty consistently adding 2-3 lbs a week. Going by the size of her Mom and Pop we are thinking 60-80 lbs full grown.
And here's the latest addition to our family, Milo. He's beagle/rat terrier, about 8 months old, maybe 18 lbs. Really a great pup. Super good with kids, plays with our cats (they like him because they know they can beat the snot out of him), and just a happy little dude. Got him as a rescue, and he's found a home for life!

Yes, he's an 8-month-old ball of joy! Always smiling and just wants to be close to his pack o' people. Great mutt.
