Hey Nineteen
That's 'Retha Franklin
She don't remember the Queen of Soul
It's hard times befallen
The sole survivors
She thinks I'm crazy
But I'm just growing old
John Hartford sang "now here's to all them good ol' boys, cheer 'em on, make a lot of noise, this would be a sad old world without all them good ol' boys"
I'm positive he woulda considered Aretha a good ol' boy.
RIP and thanks for making the world a better place.
75 million records sold worldwide. rip Aretha
Can't say hers was the voice of a generation...it was so rare, unique and utterly flawless, I doubt we will ever hear anyone like her again. Certainly not in our lifetime.
I have been bawling all day......hearing ALL her songs, that Super Bowl rendition of the National Anthem.
Much like the constant arguments as to whom is the GOAT, music beauty is in the ears of the beholder. I liked all of her hits, who didn't? She had a great voice and presence. But in the few LPS that I bought back in the day I thought there was lots of filler. I realize my filler is the other guys hit. From that early era I was much more of a Gladys Knight and Etta James fan. Still am. GK was much more poppy and Etta had that blues swagger and grit. Aretha had enormous cultural importance and had quite the life. To each his own and RIP to Aretha.
