Hard to believe they will try to get through the first six weeks with just seven OL. Looking through the cuts today, the Broncos released Ryan Harris, who has started 34 games over the last 3-4 years...and the Chargers cut Anthony Davis, who started 16 games each of the last two seasons and was once a high draft pick of the Niners. He's still just 22 years old.

Usually only 7 active on game days.

Shallowest depth on the team, which is why we only kept 7.

EDS would be next man up, and they'd juggle the line accordingly. Barclay would only play from scrimmage if there are two OL injuries in the same game.

They'll try to fill in a couple of OL on the practice squad in case of emergency, and they'll make another move if the right situation comes along. Sherrod's not gone for the year.

Good call RochNyFan. Texans sign Ryan Harris. Not sure why we wouldn't have been interested. Maybe Thompson has his eye on another veteran who if he signs after the first game won't be guaranteed his salary for the whole year, can cut when Sherrod ultimately comes back.

He didn't play at all in 2011 and has had an injury riddled career. According to his stats, he's had one year where he was able to play 16 games. Otherwise most he's ever made is 11 weeks into the season.

Don't know TT, but guessing that was a factor. Also, if he didn't make it to the 53 in TC, makes you wonder. Tackles don't grow on trees. So if Denver was done with him, probably was for a decent reason.
It seems like the Packers have a low success rate on offensive lineman then any other position. Does any one have any statistics one the number of drafted OL that made the roster vs. other positionsover the last 10 years?
I was really worried about only keeping 7 OL on the roster. However, I read that 7 OL is the normal amount of guys on the 45 man game-day roster. In that regard, it makes a little bit more sense. If a man goes down, it would make sense that TT would look towards his PS to fill the void. Plus, with Sherrod coming back mid-season, it isn't as bleak as I first thought.

Let's just hope those guys stay healthy until Sherrod is ready.

The 8-9 slots were always used for developmental guys. Breno Giacomini and the like. Datko and Greg Van Roten fill that role. They were only active if someone was injured., as they weren't much use on special teams, where we like our secret army of 6-2 250 lb clones.

The only issue I see with that approach is even a small injury forces a roster move.

Indeed, and that's a little risky with a senior citizen playing Center too

There is often some player movement after the 1st weekend is in the books...

I think some vet OTs would balk at coming to GB given Sherrod's likely return, they know it will be hard to keep their spot after week 8
I think a player can use a one-time exception for the salary being paid for the entire year if on the roster for the first game of the season (for veterans). The local radio was talking about this a few weeks ago as it related to the Bears punting situation. They were speculating whether of not the Bears would go with a rookie for the first week and then bring in a vet for week 2 until their regular punter got healthy. Or they thought maybe the go with a vet starting in week one, but run the risk of paying the entire salary.
here ya go - go get him (a burger) Ted!

Left tackle Bryant McKinnie said on Twitter on Tuesday that he's no longer with the Baltimore Ravens.

He wrote: "Decision is made! I'm gone!" And when asked by the Baltimore Sun whether he was no longer on the team, he replied in a text message "yes," the newspaper reported.
then again, not.
being in debt from the CBA lockout and having your salary garnished - somebody musta finally made him realize he needed a job.

Bryant McKinnie isn’t gone from Baltimore after all.

Just hours after McKinnie wrote “I’m gone” on Twitter amid reports that the Ravens told him to take a pay cut or get cut, McKinnie agreed to restructure his contract after all.

McKinnie’s agent, Michael George, told Jason LaCanfora of CBS that “Bryant really wanted to remain a Raven” and wanted to play for a winning team, so he agreed to lower his salary to stay in Baltimore. McKinnie will become a free agent in 2013.

So McKinnie will remain the Ravens’ starting left tackle, and Baltimore will not have to scramble its offensive line just days before the opener.

McKinnie heard these words in his head right before he agreed to take a pay cut: “Fat, broke, and stupid is no way to go through life, son.”

how about "fat, drunk, porn addicted and stupidly deep in debt"?

what a maroon...

quote:
Ravens offensive tackle Bryant McKinnie is being sued by the owner of several Miami strip clubs for racking up bills at the establishments and failing to pay them.

NBCMiami.com reports that strip club owner Charles “Pop” Young filed a lawsuit against McKinnie in Miami-Dade Circuit Court Monday afternoon. Young says McKinnie ran up bills at strip clubs Young owned between February of 2009 and September of 2010, and that Young now wants McKinnie to pay up. According to Young, the total McKinnie owes is $375,000.
Plus McKinnie's already at a 50% garnishment for failure to repay his $4.5 million "Lockout Loan".

Seriously, if you want to hang with the dancers, pay only your own way and skip the bottle service. He'd still be down a few grand but nowhere near that amount.
