Polian's Suck for Luck campaign didn't work out too well for him I guess. Clearly Manning covered up a lot of huge problems with that team. Once Manning went down everyone got to see what a horrible team Polian had put together.

From reading the PFT stuff it sounded like it was Peyton vs Polian and Irsay sided with Peyton. So who knows what they're going to do. I think they'll still draft Luck, Manning is 36 already and is just too old to try to build another team around him. If he was in his early 30s (even with the injury concerns) it would be a different story.

Read that as well and while Im not saying manning can't be a productive QB we all know this league is entirely about what have you done for me lately and not what have you done in the last 10 years. Cutting Manning would have been dificult but see one Ted Thompson.

Um. That kind of worked out.

My deepest thanks and appreciation to Bill and his son for depending on basically one player for the better part of the last decade. Now its time to wipe the slate clean and bring in a “new set of eyes’ that can see past a single position on a football team and demonstrate the ability to do more than stake their entire reputation and the fate of an entire NFL team on only QuarterBackâ€Ķ - Jim Irsay

I disagree with the quote that Manning was the only player on that team.

They had a lot of talent for a decade. Reggie Wayne, Joseph Addai, Dallas Clark, Marvin Harrison, Good O-Line, Dwight Freeney, Robert Mathis, etc.

Their problem this year was the head coach. Irsay is flat out wrong & I don't care what happened this season without Manning. The Polian's mistake was starting the season with Kerry Collins/Curtis Painter at QB. That's pathetic and they could've done much better than that. It sure seems like they purposely didn't address the QB situation to tank games & try to get the #1 overall pick.

Mission accomplished!

Very interesting thought on Clements, and Redskins were the first suitor I thought of as well.

And I think if you look back at the past 3-4 drafts from the Polians, the move makes a lot more sense.

I thought Clements was likely to go to Penn State. Supposedly interviewing this week, or was there a change in plans there?

I think Skins are going to make the big payout that it will probably take to get Matt Flynn

Holy crap! Well, I hope Andrew Luck is scouting houses in Indianapolis and Manning enjoys a nice retirement package.

Where does Polian end up?

I think Kerry Collins might've been okay. They probably would not have been a playoff team (not many teams using a 2nd stringer for eh whole season are), but they certainly would've been more competitive than 2 wins.

Confused

Did you miss the start of the season? Collins started for the Colts. He's terrible. He has no business playing on a professional football field.
Listen, I'm not advocating the Collins move. But Orlovsky wasn't much better and Painter flat out sucked. Collins had roughly two weeks to prepare. I don't know what other alternatives were out there, but I doubt the Colts would've been a playoff contender with any of them.

I think the whole is he/isn't he gonna play this season was the problem. They waited and waited and waited until it was too late.

Here's an idea. Have a serviceable backup QB on your roster in the the first place. I gave **** to Pitt because their back up was Charlie Batch, but he won his start! Flynn won his start! Get off your effin ass and find some back up talent and stop sucking Peyton's teet for your job. The coach plays a role, but the original sin happened years ago.
