Badgers use an 18-3 run over the final 5 minutes of the 1st half to take a 10 point lead over Penn State.   After playing like crap in the early part of the game Reuvers hits 2 3's to spark the Badgers.   Badgers also 11-11 on free throws and 6 of 10 from 3 pt land.  But they are still getting out rebounded by PSU.   Score at the half, 41-31 Bucky.

So Gard gets all the blame for the Penn State 17-2 run but no credit for the 18-3 run that put Bucky in control for most of the game.  Got it.  Sure I see faults with this team and the coaches, but I also see good.  It's kids playing a game, not life and death.

The Badgers shot 52% from 3.  That’s my concern.  This should not have been a ball game but if you take a closer look they got killed on the glass and honestly they don’t respond well to any kind of defensive pressure.  But hey, the try hards scratched out the W so life is good once again!  Extend Gard’s contract immediately!

LOL. Another turnover as Reuters falls over trying to land.

That was weird, to watch. He couldn't find his feet and hit the deck. Another stupid turnover that should have/ could have cost Bucky this game.

Trice looked out of sorts in the second half. All Penn State had to do to rattle him, was to pressure him in the back court. It was there he threw the terrible pass to Davis, who then fouled his Penn State defender, when he tried to catch the errant throw from Trice. I hope he plays better against Iowa, tonight. Same for everyone else on the Badgers' squad.

The first 35 minutes or so they moved the ball, crisp passing and made shots.  The last 5 or so Trice or Anderson brought the ball up and dribbled, dribbled, dribbled.  Ball movement stopped good shots became harder to get and few were made.  Penn State also played better, give them credit.

Either the the guards thought this was the way to go or Gard told them to do it.  Either way, the coaches needed to get the team back to what worked in the majority of the game.

Bring on the Iowegians.

Steve Yoder was a nice guy, too. The kids in the 80s were clean cut, try-hards. But, do you want the team to more resemble the 80s or the 00s-10s ? Yes, Packers aren’t life or death either, but 8-8 or 9-7 and never resembling a team that might win it all would get old also. Bring back Lindy Infante and have everyone eating hot dogs on the sidelines during games? I think most fans know this program could and should be in a stronger position than it is right now.

If guys were missing open looks on good offensive sets it would be one thing, but the offense during the last 4 minutes was just guys standing at the perimeter having Trice dribble the ball around for 25-30 seconds and then initiating the offense late in the shot clock. 2 points in over 4 minutes at the end with very few well-executed offensive sets is a problem.

I understand running clock, but that doesn't mean guys can't be in motion, setting picks, doing back-cuts, etc. Maybe Penn State blows an assignment and you can hit a guy for an easy layup. Just standing and watching your point guard dribble makes it easy on a defense since they know they only have to dig in and defend for about 8-10 seconds. The couple of times the Badgers ran something with motion towards the end they got decent shots - a Davison missed 3 and a J. Davis missed 5 footer. Other than that it was just let Trice try to get a shot off under duress after dribbling near center court. Here's the last 7 possessions under 4 minutes.

1. Turnover - Reuters offensive foul

2. Trice missed the front end of the bonus

3. Their only points were on a running, twisting bank shot by Trice at the end of the shot clock (he missed the FT for the 3 point play). It was a nice play by Trice, but the degree of difficulty was very high.

4. Davison missed 3 (a decent offensive set with movement). Davis fouls on the rebound and Iowa hits both FTs.

5. Turnover. A terrible pass at the end of the shot clock by Trice. Davis fouls during the scrum and Iowa hits both FTs.

6. Turnover. Trice gets a wild driving layup at the end of the shot clock blocked. Reuvers falls over after catching the inbounds pass with 3 on the shot clock.

7. J. Davis missed contested layup (a decent offensive set with movement).

This years Badgers' team is basically a bunch of guys who would have been great secondary or role players on past teams (Showalter, Brusewitz, Krabbenhoft, Nankivil). The problem is that there is no Devin Harris, Jon Leuer, Al. Tucker, Kaminsky, Koenig, Dekker, or even T. Jackson or T. Hughes type of player to get a good shot on offense or hit a clutch shot under pressure.

Trice often struggles because of his size (without the corresponding quickness of a guy like Harris) and Davison struggles to create as well.

I guess Kobe King was supposed to be that guy.

I really thought Reuvers would grow into a better offensive player as he added strength.

He plays like a 7 footer on defense but like a 6'5" guy on offense.

Despite my grousing about Gard, I want very much for this team to win and get better. Beating Iowa would be great. Having to face Illinois and then Michigan would be extremely difficult, but would be great if they could play well enough to get those chances.

Wisconsin's defense is keeping them in it.

Garza is a great college player. 20 years ago he'd be late first-round pick and a backup NBA big guy, and have a decent career as a role player. Now, he might not even get a summer league invite.

Trice with another terrible decision. A 5-second violation down 4 with 20 seconds left? You have to at least throw it in. You have to be situationally aware.

Of course, the inbound play design looked like it they had never run an inbounds play before.

Potter should have been looking at Trice, on that in bound pass.

So you’re a coach... Garza has obliterated you twice already... what do you do different? Nothing. Reuvers played 13 minutes. Tyler Wahl played 25 min and scored 2 points.

The management of this game, which they could have won, was exhibit 3,255 of why they need a different coach.

It is puzzling why Ruevers gets the start and frankly, as many minutes as he does. Especially against guys like Garza and Cockburn.  Even the big rookie from Purdue ate him up.

Garza is a cheap shot artist. On the big play where he spun to make it look like Reuvers was falling, Garza elbowed Reuvers in the back of the neck, adding to Reuvers' momentum falling forward. Garza won't be much of a factor in the NBA, if he gets there. I'd like to see what happens to him if he elbowed someone like Zion Williamson,  in the back of the neck. Reuvers needed to bulk up more in the off season. He was out-muscled all season long.

Tough to beat anyone scoring 57

The score would really have been lopsided, in Iowa's favor, if the Hawkeyes made just half of their 3 point shots in the 1st half. The were 0-10, or 0-11, from 3 point range, in the first half. If they made half their 3's, they could have won by 15 points, easily.
