Badgers start the regular BB season tonight hosting Western Illinois. Badgers lead 44-37 at the half. Two freshmen, Iverson and Thomas have looked pretty good in their 1st game as Badgers. Very aggressive and athletic, especially on the offensive boards. Of course Keonig and Hayes have led the Badgers at this point. Hayes has 17 1st half points. Western Illinois started shooting 9 of 13 and had the lead early in the game. But a 9-0 run by Bucky put the Badgers in the lead for good. Eathan Happ got in early foul trouble and spent much of the half on the bench.

I'm liking this club....young guys need to work on D but there is a lot to look forward to.
Iverson is a rebounding DEMON.
They are terrible defensively.
Hope they can pull this out, but another WI team that has long stretches of no points.
Wow.
Hey, they were 8-20 last year.. no reason for alarm.
Not looking good, it's early... it's disgusting, but that's a game that can set a bad tone for a season.
Yikes......Western Illinois?? OMGosh...... lotsa work to do indeed.
For the second consecutive season, the University of Wisconsin menβs basketball team unfurled an NCAA Final Four banner prior to its opener.
Unfortunately, the similarities between last season and this season ended once the banner took its place in the Kohl Center rafters.
A year ago, the only question about the Badgers was whether they would make it back to the Final Four. After losing only sharpshooter Ben Brust to graduation, they were experienced, deep and talented.
When UW opened against Western Illinois on Friday night, everything had changed. After the Badgers lost five of their top seven players, including two NBA first-round draft picks, coach Bo Ryan didnβt even know what to expect day to day in practice much less how his players would perform once the games began.

Worst defense I've seen in a long time. Youth will do that
I was really exited about the young guys. It will take them a while, but by midseason they will be playing some good ball. There is a lot of talent on this team, but it is so young there will be a lot of losses early.
Remember Bo's first team?
Still, given how dominant UW has been at Kohl Center that's about as shocking of a loss I can recall in Bo's tenure. Good news is there is no way he will tolerate the lax play on D.
IIRC....
A few years back they were beaten in a shocker by North Dakota State Fighting Sioux (I think that's the team name anyway) at the Kohl Center. (or are they the Bison).
But this is a bigger shock since it's a D-II team. I think NDSU just entered D-I at the time, however.
