Ian Rapoport is reporting the Panthers will release Baker Mayfield today. Next stop, San Fran as a back-up QB?

I really thought Baker was going to be good. Can't really explain why, only that he seemed like the guy that would have just figured it out. The Browns didn't do him any favors but even at his best, he was just a system QB that needed to be set up with a great coach and play calling, and a good run game, WRs and protection. You'd expect a #1 pick to be able to succeed with less.
San Fran actually makes sense only b/c there are no better options for them. Will be interesting to see how that plays out, if he does go to San Fran.
Baltimore maybe?
What would his cap hit be if we decided to sign him for a backup ? "Asking for a Friend ".
Would love it if the Packers picked him up off waivers. Let him cook for 1 year behind Rodgers and take over in 2024.
My brothers son in law is a huge Oklahoma fan. He LOVES Baker Mayfield. He's also a Bears fan.
Anyway, they had their 2nd baby this year and they named him Baker.
Brock Purdy backup.
Isn't Baker Mayfield just Jimmy G with a much bigger ego?
SF going with 13 yr vet and ex-49er Josh Johnson as back up.
Houston you’re on the clock.
Even they don’t want him, he could screw up their number one draft pick

Or is Jimmy just another Baker who went to 2 great organizations ? Baker probably never had a chance, this is why I have hope for Love, he matures, doesn’t get beat up and if he is smart he is learning every day which should help.

I was in his corner when he got drafted and had to deal with the stupidity of the media. The short playoff run they had two years ago turned out to be the ceiling rather than something to build on. When I look at the roster they assembled around him, I couldn't help but wonder what a guy like Rodgers could do with what they provided for Mayfield. Chubb is a stud at rb and he's backed by Hunt who looks to punish people when he runs the ball. They had Landry and OBJ, drafted a couple young WRs and had two TEs that weren't great but serviceable.
Mayfield ended up being a tease. Very Favre-like in that he would give you some incredible throw and follow it with two or three wtf plays. His size was always an issue. He had to be top 5 in batted balls at the LOS. And his decision making never seemed to improve. I do believe the Browns did him dirty, considering they were a heartbeat away from a conference title game. The blowout of the Stillers was a thing of beauty. He also battled most of last year with a separated shoulder and the ensuing limbo for months was a shitty thing to do to a guy. He will most likely be picked up by somebody, but I think he has too much against him after five years to put things together and be a viable starter in the league. If he hangs around as a backup, that's probably the extent of his career.
Never bought into the Baker hype, and I didn't see him becoming a great pro. Yes, Cleveland done him wrong, but he just didn't quite have it in him to get a team over the top. He is going to make someone a really good backup, though, or a stop-gap starter until a younger guy is ready. And that's right where I thought he'd be...

You saying Mayfield is better?
Mayfield is picked up by the Rams. That’s a huge fuck you to the 49ers and Shanahan to cock block any chance of Mayfield keeping their SB hopes alive. Touché to them 😂😂😂
Jimmy may be back for the playoffs…if the D and the kid gets them there
What would AR fetch in a return for 4 games and the playoffs?
Trading deadline has passed.
Not excited to be facing an unscouted QB (again) plus the familiarity factor between McVay and LaFleur is another challenge.
Jim Rome: Who fell faster, harder or faster, the Rams or Baker?
If the Packers fear Baker Mayfield, they should fold up the franchise and never play again

Baker threw 4 interceptions against the Packers last Christmas Day. He helped Rasul Douglas make a bit more money in free agency by throwing him 2.
He was picked off by Darnell Savage for one to the 2 interceptions Savage has had in the last 29 games.
The Packers' DBs should be licking their chops at this one.
By the way, the fact that a guy playing safety that runs a 4.36 and has started almost 60 games for a Packers team in the last 4 years has a total of 50 interception return yards in his career and 0 yards in interception returns the last two years is amazing.
It's almost eerie how similar the career statistics are for Baker Mayfield and Marcus Mariota are. It's almost like they are the same guy.
Mayfield, 30-35 record as starter, 98 TDs, 62 interceptions, 15,438 yards, 86.5 QBR. 1-1 in two playoff starts.
Mariota, 34-40 record, 92 TDs, 54 interceptions, 15,656 yards, 89.3 QBR. 1-1 in two playoff starts.
And neither one is any good.

The answer to that question is … Jim Rome. I didn’t realize he was still alive. Back in the day his show was the shit! I even saw him on a tour stop once.

One of those guys is a great teammate. The other is Baker Mayfield.

LOL, I still listen to him on radio if I'm driving at the right time.
He bought a place in Eagle River...

That’s pretty much my take.
The Browns did Baker dirty….they’ve done pretty much every player to come through Cleveland dirty since the 1950s. Joe Thomas, likely a first ballot inductee in Canton, was a part of a team that went 10-6 in his first season, 2007. The Browns then proceeded to put up a 38-122 record the remainder of his career. Outside of the 5 minutes they were pretty good in the Kosar era, they’ve been a dumpster fire. Even Bill Belichick couldn’t bring th m sustained success.
Garoppolo has never scared me. He’s benefitted from some extraordinary talent around him. That’s the only reason he beat the Packers at Lambeau in the playoffs. He’s played like absolute dog shit when it mattered most, but his team has picked him up time and time again. Pretty much the exact opposite of Rodgers for most of the playoffs with Green Bay.
Cleveland got ahold of Baker Mayfield at the point where he needed proper molding to succeed in the NFL. The Browns were incapable of doing that.

And Mariota has been benched in Atlanta in favor of rookie Desmond Ridder. And who was Ridder's college head coach? Luke Fickell, now Badgers head coach.
Are you saying there's a chance the Badgers will get/develop an actual QB?

I still don't get it .
