Don didn't have his best day today. While he's not Bulaga he's also better then Newhouse.

What I do wonder however is at what point, if any, does Sherrod get a chance to overtake him?

Sherrod's size makes him a more ideal T. 6'5 and 325 vs 6'4 and 305. IIRC Sherrod also has longer arms and is considered to be more athletic. And apparently Sherrod is very smart and has a very good understanding of the game.

Unlike someone like Hayward who they can ease back into rotation, I can't see how you'd do that with Sherrod vs Barclay. Either MM has to give him a full game as a starter or he keeps things as is and Barclay remains the starter.

If your MM do you keep things as is or get this kid on the field ASAP?

I'd keep things as they are, p'boi.

Sherrod hasn't played a down in nearly 2 years, and I can't believe he will suddenly be ready to play. If he starts standing out in practice to the point where the coaches want him to get on the field, I could see him start by playing a series here and there during a game. It's possible, of course, just not very likely IMHO.

My belief is that Sherrod will get a chance to compete with Barclay, Daktari; maybe even Bulaga next TC for the starter's role, but not before then.

I also initally thought it was going to be hard to make a cut to activate Sherrod, but injuries may dictate that decision.

I tend to agree. And that would also mean putting up with some growing pains before seeing how good/bad Sherrod does. But on the other hand, there's also a reason MM/TT didn't just IR him this season. I'd have to think they are planning to plug him in at some point.  He was a 1st rounder for a reason.

The way this season is going for the Packers having another "next up guy" is something the Packers need, that is if  Sherrod can play.

There are factors independent of how Sherrod looks in practice that will determine what the Packers do with him. Injuries being the big factors, but Bukhtiari being a rookie must be of concern., long season and that rookie wall thing.

Competition should always being happening.  If Sherrod shows more, you put him in.  As stated, the rust factor is the biggest issue.  He should know the playbook pretty well by now.  Anything that helps shore up pass protection is a good thing.
