It was on the heels of a championship season where the defense played very well all year long, and Hawk was the guy getting the calls from the sidelines and communicating them to the other ten guys. I get why they didn't want to disrupt that going into the 2011 season.

Unfortunately, his limitations were exposed big time after he received the contract. I think the lackluster play of the defensive line as a whole made Hawk look worse than he really is. Can the Packers do better than Hawk? Absolutely. My point is that if the play up front is better, Hawk would still be serviceable in this defense.
