Biggest difference between Saban and Bielema's Big Ten days are the programs they inherited. MSU was not to the level that UW was when both took the reigns.

I would be very curious as to how good of a coach Bielema would have been at Wisconsin without Paul Chryst creating dynamic offenses out of average talent (like John Stocco and Scott Tolzien). Bielema, as a defensive coach never had defenses as good as "his" offenses. Chryst is the guy that should have gotten the job.

Meanwhile, he no longer has an AD who's career is completely tied to him. Alvarez did a great job of shielding young Bret from his numerous detractors around Madison and among the boosters. Will he have that at Arkansas and in the SEC? Hell no.
It's also important to note that Saban inherited an MSU program that was on probation with penalties taking away the number of scholarships he had available for recruits.

Bielema inherited a team with an established QB (Stocco), the best offensive tackle in the country (Joe Thomas), another offensive lineman who played in the NFL (Urbik), and Travis Beckum as a TE. On defense, his first team started 6 guys who played at least one game in the NFL (Levy, Shaughnessy, Ikegwuono, Casillas, Hayden, and Roderick Rogers). Give Bielema some credit, he won the games he was supposed to, but there are a lot of coaches out there who would have won big with that talent.
Couple fun things from this week:

Gee takes a shot...

β€œSomeone was saying to me, well, you know, Bret Bielema leaving ... that was a blessing for Wisconsin and they knew it,” Gee said on the tape, while speaking to the athletic council. β€œBecause he was under tremendous pressure. They didn’t like him. Barry Alvarez thought he was a thug. And he left just ahead of the sheriff.” Read more: http://host.madison.com/sports...a.html#ixzz2UyVvnYfK

Bret Bielema ‏@BretBielema 12h It's a start from Mr. Gee. Will take his apology and phone call soon. #1-0

Gotta hand to BB on this one however:

Bret Bielema ‏@BretBielema 30 May Sometimes comedy comes in many different ways. Couldn't resist this one.

The best part about Bielema is that he was on record a year or two ago bashing the $EC and Urban Meyer and now he's shilling for that same conference and likely using the same tactics.

I have a feeling this will end badly for Bret.  He's going to learn there aren't many Indiana's and Minnesota's in the Southeastern Conference, and he's already put a target on his back from some of the stupid comments he's made.
