I wish Gard had played Crowl and Winter together down the stretch to try and control Illinois on the boards. Plus Winter is a real 3 pt threat too.   Other than that I thought he did a good job.  And I still think McGee being out with the injury had a lot to do with lackluster play in February.

And just announced the dreaded 5-12 matchup.  James Madison, 31-3 for the season.

Clearly the Badgers are the more battle tested team at this point.  But in a one and done situation I do not like this draw.

JMU does a lot of things well that the Badgers have had some difficulty with.  They generate a lot of pressure leading to steals.  They play good perimeter defense. They shoot and make a lot of 3s.   And they aren’t built like a typical mid major team.  The have decent size and athleticism especially on wing.

UW has the advantage in terms of frontcourt size and JMU isn’t used to playing a team like the Badgers that can get really physical and pound the glass.

If the Badgers can hit a fair amount of their 3s I like their chances.

I’ve never seen them play, most here if not all have seen them once or so. I have read up a bit on JMU and agree with Tschmak as to their attributes.  They have done well against their  peers, no doubt, but a Big 10 team playing well is another thing.   The basketball guys who have seen them seem to think highly of them and their chances. I saw this morning that a 12 seed wins approx 37 % of the time.  If Klesmit is fully healed and if Wahl can stay on the court I think the Badgers can win comfortably and I’m picking them.

Enjoy the games.

A school like James Madison can’t really simulate the rough and tumble physical style that the Badgers should bring to the table.  UW also has a real size advantage inside with guys like Wahl.

I know they played and beat Michigan State earlier in the year but that’s when you want to play the Spartans - before they figure things out later in the season.  So not sure you can take away much from that game.
