So the B1G championship game is getting closer so I thought I would post something about it.

The game is set to kick off at 8:15 pm EST/7:15 CST and O$U is currently the favorite by 6.5-7 points.

Mrs. Heckler (huge Ohio State fan) and yours truly (huge UW fan) are headed to the game and we will be sitting with 2 other O$U fans and tailgating with probably 10 more O$U fans.  The plan for me to tolerate this is some good IPA beer and good sipping tequila I will be bringing with me.

Anyhow, as for the game I keep hearing on local O$U media and from fans that this game once again will be a blowout win for O$U because they have something to prove, they beat teams like UW just with talent etc.

I think they will be shocked when they see how hard this team plays especially on defense.  I think with UW's defense they will hold their own against OSU's offense but they are going to have to not give up big plays and keep Barrett from running for big plays.

The ultimate key to me is how well Hornibrook plays and he can make play action work for them.  One other thing to look out for is for UW to attack OSU's linebackers who to be honest have sucked this year. They struggle in coverage and are not physical at all.  One other thing to watch is #3 on OSU (Arnett) he has been getting torched ALL year long so I would expect UW to attack him.

One final thing I heard today is that apparently JT Barrett underwent minor knee surgery on Sunday but is expected to play on Saturday.  Even the Suckeye fans are saying they think this is a smoke screen by the weasel Urban Meyer.

Anyhow, you all know how superstitious I am so I am going with OSU 33 UW 28

WIS is not just defense. They put up points against some other good defensive teams. 24, 45, 31, 38, and 33 vs teams that finished in the top 40 defensive rankings. (granted, some scoring came from their D, but the point remains)

Headed to Indy soon to start the festivities but want to pass along one rumor I am hearing here in Ohio.  On Columbus radio Beanie Wells and some other guy are reporting that JT Barrett will not play tomorrow.  I guess he still has an open wound and is pretty sore.  I take it with a grain of salt because I personally thing OSU is playing games with this.

ON WISCONSIN!

I don’t bet on ANY of my teams, but got asked by a friend so I’m in for a Benjamin on Wisconsin.     He’s got a line to Vegas, Ohio is 6.5 favorite right???   Yikes, can’t believe I’m doing this either.   So nervous........he’s a huge gambler and has a really good feeling bout the Badgers.   Won’t be eating if I lose, and that’ll be my last bet on ANY favorite team.  ****’em Bucky.

Hornibrook is the key to this game.  Since the second half of the Michigan game he's played really well.  I have a feeling OSU will load up to stop the run so 12 is going to need to make some plays in the passing game and avoid the killer mistake.  If Wisconsin plays a "clean" game on offense I don't see the Bucks beating them.

Yes Tim. If Wisconsin goes undefeated, they're definitely not 1 of the best 4 teams.

There's others out there saying the same thing... I get both sides of the argument honestly.

On a neutral field, would UW be favored against Alabama? No...  Auburn?... No... Georgia?... No...  Clemson?... No... Oklahoma?  No...  Miami?  Probably not... Hell, they're not even favored against Ohio State.

I do think UW will get in if they can get past Ohio State, but I'm not convinced they'd be one of the 4 best teams.

Great time of year to be a college football fan.

Defense travels well.   The Badgers have a NC caliber defense.

The strength of Ohio State is their DL and if the Badgers can crank up the running game and hit some playaction passes I like their chances.

Other key is starting fast. Don't fall behind and have to play catch up.

No Way!   Barrett plays!     All smoke by O$U.

or

no way Barrett plays.    ???

I want Barrett to play! I want to beat OSU into the turf.  OSU has been whining about the Badgers having a weaker schedule than theirs. I want OSU's best on the field when Bucky demolishes them! GO BUCKY!!! NO MERCY!!!

Defense wins championships still holds true in college football.

Very true.  UW's defense is impressive....but if you're going to have that conversation, you also have to look at the strength of schedule side of the argument.

73rd ranked schedule.

According to "Bear" on ESPN, UW has played only one offense on the season ranked in the Top 50.  Ohio State's offense is ranked #4... So today will tell the tale of just how good the UW defense really is.

With all of that said... I just can't fathom the committee leaving an undefeated Big10 championship team out of the playoffs.

Alabama is incredibly (INCREDIBLY) overrated

Miami is just overrated

But, but, but....Alabama's last 4 recruiting classes have 22 5 star recruits (as discussed in another thread, Wisconsin has had 2 total since 2002). For Alabama not to be a top 4 team would mean that all those people who make a living projecting how good 16 and 17 year olds will be when they are 22 years old would have been wrong.

Either that or Nick Saban is the worst game day head coach in the country.

On a neutral field, today, they're underdogs.

If they beat O$U, they wouldn't be underdogs to Alabama or Miami. They might be minor underdogs (less than 3 points) to Oklahoma, Georgia & Auburn.

We're going to see what the Badgers are made of today. I've made bets in the past in this position & scored big - (Jan 1996 Packers vs. Niners in SF +9.5 underdogs)

These opportunities don't come around very often so you have to jump on them when they present themselves.

If they beat O$U, you'll never see them at +6.5 again

Well Goldie....if you got the Badgers at +6.5 you are a winner!
