Free throws are keeping them alive. 17 for 21 so far
They are going to win in Madison!!!!! Square Garden.
and now, bring on Michigan State......should have won that game Sunday.......well thatβs ok, Buckyβll knock em off this time....
They could have won it...
Pretty amazing run...
I thought you didn't watch sporting events.
20 of 24 free throws won the game. Maryland had 8 of 9. That, and Gard didn't get a technical.
And Gard should still be fired after the season... but he won't be.
Make your case to Barry. Write him tonight.
I understand the frustration with Gard sometimes. Good God I've wondered about his lack of emotion at times. Maybe it's because I was used to Bo getting upset early and working' the refs a bit.....Bo knew where that "line" was, too.
I'm hoping Gard gets some of that "emotion" at times. He needs to grow in that area. But dang...the kids are still playing hard for him. I really don't thinks its Gard --- but just a lot of things have happened this year. Sometimes you get bit by the injury but....and sometimes the recruit just doesn't fulfill that "potential prediction" as when they were 18 years old. Sometimes it works out, too (Kaminsky).
I think Gard has deserved a longer leash than 2.5 years.
I agree he should get a longer leash, specifically because of how they are playing now. I understand he has a young team and injuries, but I watched a horrible Wisconsin team get destroyed by a bad Iowa team. It's hard to forget just how bad they played earlier in the season and not put that on Gard's shoulders too.
What we have seen the last two weeks is encouraging, but **** better be turned around for next year.

Gard is not built like Bo was.....he is way to reserve, but that you can not change. I'm getting very excited for next year....the kid from La Crosse, and all the babies from this year, love Davison, hoping they'll be fun to watch and kick some arse. Was looking back at my photos from the dream season when they went to the final with Duke. Wow what a fun season that was.
Anyone have a good streaming site for the game today? The one I usually use doesn't have any NCAA games on it today.
I don't think you can even think about firing Gard at this point. This team has been hit by injuries this year and as sandiego said the kids are playing hard for him and you can see this team growing.
Hanging tough with State.......is it me or do they play better when my cutie, Davison is in?? He just seems to bring an energy to the team that they kinda lac when heβs not in there.
Bridges and states offensive rebounding are hurting them right now....Badgers are playing real well....Ford with another 3.
Missed free throws....
Ugh......Happ, was hitting them yesterday not today. Ah dang it......miracle??

Going to cost them this game. Missed front end of 2 one-and-ones and MI State comes down and buries a three.
Cluster **** last posession
Heβs crying......my baby.....
No real margin for error when playing a superior team and the missed FTs were a killer. Disappointing year, but I don't see Gard as being the problem.

I agree with this except for the longer leash part. I applied the same logic to Jason Kidd and expected improvement every year... and many of the same reasons were given there as well.
But you see coaches like Bo Ryan have similar teams- even less talented teams- and they went out there and didnβt beat themselves- and won a crapload of games like today. Ugly games. Games where they were completely overmatched and still won overwhelmingly more than they lost.
Todays game would have been the final or semi final in a Ryan year- and all of us would be looking forward to how good they could be next year. But 2 weekβs of better basketball does not erase 2 months of dreadful basketball on any planet, and the key question is why. Why not sooner?
And I think the answer is that Gard did not prepare them adequately for the season. Tough schedule or no, they imploded. They became a losing team. That cannot happen. Not to any program that deems itself on the level UW is. And Bo Ryan has played freshmen before, so youth is no excuse. For the last 2 years Gard has run the program, and the development of the now junior class speaks volume of the quality of the programβs development of young players under Gard.
So heβll get another year. It'll be better- but it wonβt be what could be with a better coach. For years we though Ryan just needed talent and theyβd be elite- and we were right. Now they have talent but the coach is lacking. I donβt understand why UW canβt have both...

yep. I said right before the MSU player hit that once-in-a-lifetime 3....those missed front ends of the bonus would cost them.
I was hoping Gard would run a play for just a quick 2. Then foul again. there was still 20 seconds and a time-out left I think. Oh well...they tried...MSU played good Defense on the last play.
and if Michigan can knock off State I am going to be really upset. Lotsa time left.....but come on.
ouch. Meeeechigan won! dang it.....well, bittersweet....I'm glad MSU is out, but...
I thought if we could've gotten by MSU last night that we might've had a good chance of winning the B1G Tourney and getting that NCAA bid after all. Oh well, next year looks promising.
Wolverines look pretty good...they play some D, have good guard play and get a bit of bench play.
And will flame out in the NCAA.
Well. WE were on a good roll, played well. I would've loved to have made it to the semi-finals just to see if we had enough to beat the Wolverines. Happ and Davison getting into foul trouble didn't help us down the stretch in the first half. Woulda, coulda, shoulda. dang
