Bishop needs counseling

Just read this.

He's claiming the following:

Sorry. Not buying it Desmond. Every pre-season of late, we see Bishop doing very well in TC and pre-season. But when it comes to regular season games where opposing teams are operating at full speed, he's just not the same impactful player he was in August.

I just don't believe Capers, MM, Greene, and even TT would be so stupid/ignorant to not play Bishop because of where he was drafted. See Donald Driver, Atari Bigby, Tramon Williams, and Brad Jones.

Not only that, they were willing to and did reduce AJ Hawk's playing time last season despite him being the 5th overall pick. Certainly no politics here nor were they worried about hurting AJ's feelings.

Yes, there is depth at ILB. But Hawk or Chillar aren't THAT good that no one can't overtake them. It's not like he's trying to push Woodson or Collins or Pickett out of their roles. And certainly at OLB where there is little decent depth there is a lot of opportunity.

Cry me a river. You're not playing as often as you want, because you haven't proven yourself to be better than your teammates. You want more playing time?! How about you quit whining and start playing better. Wow, you picked off Matt Flynn and had a big tackle on a rookie. I guarantee other players will have done by the end of the camp, and they won't have made the roster.

Sounds like David Martin 2.0. At least Martin kept his mouth shut to the best of my knowledge.

I would love it if McCarthy, Capers, and Greene got tape of all of his miscues, forced him to watch each and everyone of those tapes, and then had a nice conversation with him about politics vs. playing time.

Let's see how far he walks it back after the "come to Jerry/STFU Desmond" meeting he'll be having in the next day or so.

Apparently, Desmond doesn't understand the one thing Coaches will not tolerate is a guy who blows assignments and gives up a quick 6 on a nothing play. I still remember the Chester Taylor swing pass where Bishop just completely forgot to pick him up out of the backfield, and it turned into a quick 6 for the Queens. It believe it happened again one other time, where he missed another assigment that went for 6.

The Coaches would rather take Hawk (or even Barnett) who will at least be in the vicinity to make a tackle and force the other team to run many more plays to score, than a guy who is in another area code when his assigned guy gets the ball.

Bottom line is that he has had chances, although limited, other than in the preseason and has done nothing to show he should be the starter.

Wish him well on his next team when he leaves in free agency.

He may have a small bit legitimacy in his gripe. It is often normal course of business for the folks who pay the most to those who get the most and those who get the most usually play the most.

That being said, Bishop should simmer down and concentrate on getting the most out of his play.

DON'T NOBODY MOVE!!

I can't say I blame him. Whether he has a legitimate gripe or not, it has to be extremely frustrating to sit on the bench year after year. If he needed to blow off steam, so be it.

Wonder if the guy is running his mouth to force a trade. He's done a pretty decent job keeping his mouth shut ...until now.

It's the coaches' fault for not knowing how to use him.

He's right, that's why Brian Brohm is Aaron Rodgers' backup and Matt Flynn is buried as the third-string quarterback.

Weird. not sure why any NFL player would ever give this interview. He essentially said he's better than Barnett, Hawk and Chillar and the only reason he's not playing over them is b/c of draft status and salary.

I think this is a case where Bishop only remembers the plays he makes and forgets the plays he completely misses. In his mind, he's the guy that forces fumbles and pressures the QB. In the coaches minds, he is the guy that forgets to cover the RB in the flat and is caught in the wrong gap on run plays. Playmakers are important, but defenses these days are predicated on each player covering his assignment. If one player is out of position, it can turn into an easy 6 (which we've seen out of Bishop).

My guess is that Bishop is gone next year. Only way he stays is if he finally "gets it" this year, get's more playing time to prove he "gets it" and Hawk leaves in 2011 due to his high salary.

Hell in that later quote, he essentially said he is one of the two best ILBs in the league---not just GB, but the league.

Those convinced Desmond Bishop should be an every-down player should have seen Tuesday night’s practice.

Given the opportunity to play with the starters for the entire practice in base and nickel for the first time this summer, Bishop did what he often does in his few real game opportunities.

That is, he gave up too many plays.

A day after he was thrown into a new-look nickel package, he also got the base reps because Nick Barnett was resting his surgical repaired knee.

Bishop might be a powerful hitter and a decent rusher, but he once again struggled in coverage. He gave up a long catch to tight end Jermichael Finley on a seam route for a 21-yard gain in the 7-on-7 two-minute drill. In the same drill, he gave up the winning touchdown to Donald Lee on first-and-goal from the 6-yard line with 16 seconds left. He also was in coverage on Nelson’s deep seam route.

Sure, Bishop made some noise, like when he knocked off Finley’s helmet after the tight end made a short catch in the flat but for every big play he makes, he seems to give up one, too.

Maybe that’s why in his first three seasons, he never received any consistent playing time.

Well, that may be it, but preseason should give us one last good look at him during his final year. Too bad, if he can't get over the inconsistency. Such a tease, like a really fast wide receiver that has bricks for hands. Or a beast of a running back that constantly runs into his blockers and falls down.

If by LeShon Johnson you mean Darrell Thompson.

He said "runs into his blockers and falls down", not "runs out of bounds".

My last memories are of the 94 season where he did nothing but run into blockers. See what happened when he tried to stay in bounds!

Huh. I just rewatched some of the "earlier Favre era" games and could have sworn Thompson was the guy. OH, it was 92 not 94. I knew it was Farve's "first year" but had the 94 wrong.

After reviewing some stats - interesting tidbit: Favre was sacked 40 times (the most in his career) during the SB31 season. That's a lotta sacks for a MVP SB-winning QB.

I heard another interview yesterday with him and one of the radio guys from 107.5 FM in GB. Bishop was asked a question- "why it is that whenever you are in there you seem to be involved in big plays (opposition)?" After pausing for like 20 seconds, he responded that since he doesn't play a lot every play seems to be magnified - and if he played more we'd see more good plays.

I would love to have Bishop's hitting ability on the field. But I'm with the coaches in that Bishop needs to learn how to cover. He gets exposed again & again. Until he quits complaining and gets his butt out there and learns that he will be nothing more than depth - or he could find himself on another team.

All of GB's LBs were signed/drafted (with the exception of Matthews) for a different scheme. High probability that in next year's draft, GB takes a couple high LB picks. One inside & one outside.
