Oh Ted you IDOT. What we're you thinking?..

And yet with a new opportunity with the Vikings to revive his career, Bishop hasn’t been able to stay on the field.

His absence from last Friday’s preseason opener was because of a groin pull he suffered a week earlier, another injury obstacle at an inopportune time. No wonder Bishop’s anxiety has elevated as a critical stretch arrives.

“This is going to determine whether or not he makes our team,” coach Leslie Frazier said. “So much of this is about how he plays over the next two weeks. Or if he’s not available because of his injury. I can’t say it any simpler than that. It’s a big two weeks for him. He needs to show us he can help our football team in order to make our team.”

For a moment, I also felt bad for him. But he's a Queen (for now) so my empathy instantly dissolved. '

We'll see if he can get healthy in a hurry but once again this looks like another very smart "non-move" by TT.

ROTTT!!

Would TT really take this injury prone football player back again?there was a good reason TT didnt pay him what he demanded and now the Vikings are unfortunately for them seeing his reasoning.

Not a bad idea.

If he is healthy and available or if a need arises. Can't get cheaper than the league minimum.

Sorry Bill, Bishop was'nt demanding anything as he was under contract when let go (at least I'm pretty sure). He had a contract TT did not want to pay in the event of further injury. Could be wrong however.

Desmond Bishop     @Desbishop55

Been here before, A few times actually. Prob more times then I've should've been. But.. I Can't help but smile & buckle up that chin strap!

Recent tweet after all the news he's on the bubble. The guy wouldn't know an excuse if it took a 2x4 to his temple. He's a football player that caught a string of s****y breaks. Could see him making a fine football coach one day.

I feel sorry for Bishop, too.

He was a good player, wasn't a malcontent, and didn't do anything 'wrong'.

As Chililjon mentioned, he caught some bad breaks with injuries and, likely, the 'politics' of football rosters. Also no ill will for him going to the Vikes; he wasn't a turncoat, and had to do what was right for him.

I think it's fair to say had he remained in Green Bay, he would be facing the same competition in TC, and, just as likely, the same results.

None of that affects TT's decision to release him. It was the right thing to do for the team. Even if it was just a gamble that Thompson took, the odds favored him. Smert.

Like Desmond and his apparent struggle with injuries gives me no joy. When Jennings has the inevitable trouble staying on the field, that's another story.

It really does show why players need to cash in when the opportunity is there. All it takes is one play to send your career in a downward spiral.

You people that are pissed because he left GB and went to the Vikings are ridiculous! It's almost as if the Vikings have never won a championship...lololololololol...sometimes I crack myself up.

Sounds like it's 50-50 if he'll play more than 5 games again.

As many others have said, I feel bad for him, he was a good player for us and caught some bad breaks.  I don't fault the guy for trying to get paid and keep his career alive with the Queens.  Gerg on the other hand, is a different story.

Just saw that to PR. Little wonder why GB released him. From that link:

The continuing health issues of Minnesota Vikings linebacker Desmond Bishop, and the resulting jeopardizing of his presumed roster spot, adds local relevance to an important study published in June by the American Journal of Orthopedics.

In case you misplaced that issue: A group of researchers studied 10 NFL instances of a player undergoing surgery to re-attach a proximal hamstring rupture, the injury Bishop is believed to have suffered in August 2012 while with the Green Bay Packers. According to the study, a return to any level of NFL effectiveness from that injury has proved to be a 50-50 proposition.

Nine of the 10 returned to play after the injury, but only five of them appeared in more than one game.

Those odds help explain why the Packers released Bishop in June, especially after a hamstring strain sidelined him during organized team activities (OTAs). He missed the Vikings' preseason opener because of a groin pull, and his inability to stay on the field appears to have the Vikings on edge.

I think this was a noble TT move as well as a prudent one. Desmond was owed no money for attending this years training camp beyond the 1600/week veteran scale.  Bishop could have been retained throughout training camp just in case he achieved a comeback. And then been cut at the end, when the chance for his catching on elsewhere became zero. As it turned out, he's got a chance with the Vikings and maybe some more exposure if that doesn't work out. And the Packers did the best they could for a player they no longer wanted.

GB staff covering all the bases: reading medical journals to help make roster decisions.

Feel bad for Bishop. When he was able to line up a guy, that guy knew he'd been hit. I think he was on the verge of having a breakout year (based on the previous year) when he was hurt. It sucks for him, as this obviously is a really tough thing to come back from.

I also wonder how many games those five who played "more than one" actually played?

More prudent than noble on his part. Had he been injured in training camp the team would have been on the hook for his huge salary.

Mi Joe,

I could be wrong but an injury during training camp, that a team is unwilling to wait out, is handled by the injury settlement. Which is about ~300K. Eye popping for me but substantially less than Bishop's 4+ million contract.

Still, with their familiarity with Bishop's condition and progress, it probably was avoiding an unreasonable risk of 300K that just happened to appear a selfless gesture.

Which gets TT public relations points, even if it costs him humanitarian ones.

Cool, beat UNC-CHeat like a drum. Ill be pulling for cocks that night and vs Clemson

Q: With putting Desmond Bishop at the number one, how will that work in the nickel with him andErin Henderson?

A: We just make a decision. We don’t necessarily plan on taking Erin off the field but there are times where Desmond could be playing at the outside linebacker spot as well. We’ve explained to our players what the plan is and they know that we want to get some views of Desmond with the first group; they understand that, they understand why. So no spite against them, we need to be able to evaluate Desmond along with some other guys. A lot of guys we need to evaluate here in this ball game this week as well as we’re trying to make some decisions regarding our roster.
