Ted might be fortunate Raji turned it down. He's a good player, but that's a lot of money for what he's given the Packers over the past 4+ seasons.
He is a veteran, a semi star on this team. Last week with the 3rd string QB playing and with the team suffering with injuries and needing him to step up what happened....
Check out last weeks box score, no mention of the finger waver. To qualify for 8 million he needs to step up and make some plays, starting today.
man, can't believe he wouldn't jump on that. the ol' bird in the hand business and all...
yup, he and his agent feel there is more out there on the open market, considering he is still pretty young, they may be right. Is that risk worth a significant payout? It's not like this is a lowball offer.
Yeah, Jennings all over again. Why we kept Boyd.
Don't hold your breath waiting for Boyd to replace Raji. If Raji leaves, Ted's probably going to have to select a big body early in the 2014 draft.

He was saving his game for this week.
I like Raji but what has he done to earn $8m a year? He's never talked about as a top player at his position and I kind of agree with that. Other than 2010, this defense has been pretty bad. CMIII was obviously worth it but other than him, hard to say any other player on this defense is irreplaceable, which is what $8m per year means.
If Raji won't take $8m per year, I wonder if TT lets him walk and instead brings back Jolly (for 3-4 years) and Pickett (for 1-2 years). Daniels looks like a potential star and Jones has been coming on with 3 sacks in the last 2 games. Worthy comes back too and you have to assume Boyd has talent if they've kept him around. That's a pretty full house on the DL. They'll miss Raji but if he wants $10m a year, I think they have to let him walk. He's just not worth that.
If I read the article correctly, thats been pretty much a standing offer for the past several months, and Raji's Agent has declined it a few times already.
Raji did play better in 2010 when he was the nose tackle, and getting a lot more reps. Since then he's playing end with Pickett playing the nose. And, both are coming off in obvious pass situations.
Would Raji go back to playing nose tackle next year (providing he signs) if TT lets Pickett walk? Lots of uncertainty next year regarding the Packers D line with all the expiring contracts after 2013.
Vikings will pay him Geno Atkins money next year.
Raji is a BIG part of our defense. It might take 2 guys to replace him.
Geno is making $11 million per. Hard to believe a team would offer Raji anything better than $8 million, but never say never.
cant believe he hasn't taken the deal. Makes me wonder if he's getting tired of how he's used in this defense.

This
MariRaji is getting some piss poor advice
Based on the way Raji played today, let him go now. I know that can't really happen, but all he did today was dance with their offensive linemen. He didn't even look for the ball carrier. Good riddance.
Raji = Bust. This team needs to clean house and get some veterans that can play defense.
I'm not going to say I'm the biggest expert, but I think Raji would maximize his talent in a 4-3 more than a 3-4. I loved Raji in 2010 but I think he's been the eqivalent of AJ Hawk for the D-Line from 2011 onward. The Pack needs to pay playmakers the big money and since 2010, I don't think Raji is a true playmaker.
Check out the stats.....Raji, Pickett, Jolley. No Shows.
Raji = Bust
I bet noirpus is going to say something stupid
THAT IS NOT ALLOWED!!! TT = "DRAFT AND DEVELOP ONLY!!"
(even if that means "developing" street free agents)
we need to tank it. hopefully a top 10-15 pick.
masktrout= nopuss
No more than that and it is overpay. Why can't they franchise him?
I really don't think the Packers will let Raji walk. Maybe Raji needs to play out the season and realize he isn't even as good as what they offered him.
But I really doubt Raji is going anywhere.
Too much money for him, in my humble opinion. Tramon Williams has to be gone. Shields becomes priority number 1, and I would like to see them hold onto James Jones. gotta have targets, and Finley's time in GB seems over. Jones won't be that expensive, but they can use Raji's money on Shields and Jones.
From my reading of the story the report of an 8 million offer is coming from Raji's agent. I am skeptical any story that reports to know what Packers management is thinking or doing.
Just like last off season when it was reported that the Packers were going after Green. It looked to me that Green's agent was the source of the report and was counting on the Packers reputation no to contradict the report to leverage Atlanta for more money.
Raji is a good player. The only knock on him is that he's the kind of guy who feeds off the energy of his teammates when things are going well. When things are going well, the dividends are massive (conversely, when they're going bad, he will check out mentally). $8mil/yr may be a bit high, but it seems like a worthwhile risk. If he really did turn down this deal, then he's a grade-A moron.
As long as he's allowed to play both lines and even running back. Ray N. rule.
I don't know if Raji was on the field for this or not, but this statement from Brandon Jacobs is pretty telling and frankly, ****ing sad...
"Fourth and 1, it's the largest hole I've ever seen as a running back," said Jacobs. "Against a goal-line. Is it supposed to be that way? Hell, no. I was happy I got it but, as a back, I never get it that easy."
I'd like pictures as well. Did the linebackers not fill the holes? Did the line get no push? Did they guess at gaps and get it wrong?
"It's the largest hole I've ever seen as a running back".
Jacobs sees a much bigger hole when he looks in the mirror. 5 carries for 9 yards. Giants ran for 78 Yards.

Exactly. The Packers front office doesn't leak this kind of thing. Shields is priority #1 IMO. Raji will get a fair offer from the Packers, but honestly I think they will look at Daniels emergence, Jolly's emergence, the 1st rounder they jut spent on Datone, and not want to break the bank for Raji. Raji will play hardball though, he did his rookie year. This won't be an easy negotiation.
It will be real easy if Raji wants more than 8 million (buh-bye)
I read this as a packer leak for some reason. Seems like they're letting it be known that a fair offer was put on the table. I don't see what Raji gains by leaking the Packers only think he's worth 8 if he thinks he's worth a lot more. If anything I think that would lower his value on the open market. No need to offer 10 if 9 is all it takes.
I hope this thing doesn't end up with him getting less than 8 on the open market but he won't take it from the packers because he backed himself in a corner.
Shields is in much the same situation as Raji, balking at a competitive offer from Green Bay in hopes the team will go higher or the market will fall his way in March.
I think he has a lot more leverage than Raji. Young, talented corners are hard to find and always in demand.
Defensive lineman B.J. Raji––Outside of one tackle, Raji’s impact was nil and sometimes stood out for the wrong reasons, getting blown off the line of scrimmage by the Bears offensive line. He had almost no impact on either the running game or the passing game, as the Bears averaged 9.3 yards per pass and 5.0 yards per run.
I just can't get my head around the fact he is THIS bad. He's gotta be bent on being outa here or is trying to tell Dom I ain't playin' a 3-4 DE. Put me in at NT.
It's just mind boggling to me considering this is his UFA year and he's advertising his performance (err..lack of) to other teams.
Yep PackerBoi, I agree it is surprising just how poorly he's played. We saw in 2010 he's legitimately talented when he's right, but for 3 years now he's been average to poor. Let's just thank God he isn't getting paid 8 million dollars a year by the Pack in the future if this is the new norm for him.
I don't know whatever happened to that poster named Diggr who used to dog on Raji even in 2010. Diggr is probably getting his "I told you so!" reply ready to be sprung on us..
....and Diggr would be Rong again.
You don't get to scream "rain" for 3 years...then when it "rains" proclaim how "right" you are.
One of the negatives on Raji the year he was drafted was his work motivation. He did not always play up to his skill level, bad habits returning?
If the Packers were going to loose Raji it would be nice if he played up to a big contract. That way at least he Packers would get a comp pick.
James Jones had a bad year before he hit free agency, and then really didn't get many offers. He came back to the Packers, worked on his game and will getting a nice payday this time around. Maybe Raji doesn't get the bites in FA he's expecting.
