Legendary Brewers broadcaster Bob Uecker is going to be joining Bob Costas in the booth on Friday night on MLB Network for the Brewers-Cardinals game, something that’s going to be a bonus reunion for the two who meet up every Spring Training.

The two have been close since they called games for NBC Sports in the mid-90s. Each year during Spring Training, Uecker invites Costas into his booth for a couple of innings in Arizona each year and checks out his broadcast skills.

“When I put him on the air we have an audition is what it boils down for him,” Uecker joked. “And then I evaluate him and tell him to come back next year and if he keeps working we’re going to find a place for him.”

On air, the two have stark differences: Costas is known for his ability and desire to wade into controversial issues on air while Uecker is a purely beloved figure in Milwaukee and the world of baseball.

“Bob Costas is good at everything. I’ve never seen anything he can’t take care of outside of [playing sports],” Uecker said. “Except for bowling. He’s good at bowling because he’s close to the ground.”

The two have talked about reuniting throughout the years, Costas said, but were waiting for a time when the Brewers had a record good enough to put them on a national broadcast. In Friday’s game, the Brewers take on the Cardinals in a battle for the top of their division.
