Portis and Lopez canβt play against teams like Boston. They get cooked defensively and unless they are both hitting a bunch of 3s at a high percentage thereβs no reason to play them.

The main difference is that Lopez offers elite rim protection. Lopez still has a lot of value even if he's not hitting deep jump shots. Portis is one of the worst 7-footers I've ever seen protecting the rim. He's basically a poor man's version of KAT.
Maybe Bobby reads this and got motivated?
He played probably his best game as a Buck today. He actually played defense today too.
ESPNβs analysts look at a potential Jimmy Butler Milwaukee trade but wouldnβt pull the trigger because βBobby Portis is too importantβ

Independent of everything else with this, Miami is going to trade Jimmy Butler for Bobby Portis and what's left of Khris Middleton? Middleton was a great player, but he's basically a more expensive Duncan Robinson now. And the Pistons are going to take Connaughton on just to help out the Bucks and maybe get a second round pick to pay Connaughton 10 million next year also? The Bucks have one first round draft pick 6 years from now available to trade and that's going to be enough to get Butler and get out of Middleton's contract for next year?
What are these people drinking?
C'mon @MichiganPacker2 - Every team is going to help Giannis get Chip #2 IN MILWAUKEE!! π
Bobby Portis isnβt too important. I would argue heβs a luxury because Gary Trent Jr gives them plenty of firepower off the bench and unlike BP at least heβs a capable defender.
The issue is Portis allows them to eat up a lot of minutes in the regular season but come playoff time heβs a liability against most teams they will face.
As for Butler, heβs really put Miami in a no win situation. Teams know he doesnβt want to be there and given his option after this year the Heat might get 50 cents on the dollar for him. No team is going to give up a shit ton for a guy thatβs likely to bounce after this year. If the Heat donβt trade him, he walks after this year and they get nothing in return.
Either way, Miami is going nowhere with or without him.
Now, the question would be - would Miami part with Butler for Middleton and something else? It sounds crazy, but Butler is dead to them. At least Middleton would give them another guy that can put up 15-20 a game at a position of need. Swapping out Butler for Middleton is a no brainer if you are the Bucks even if itβs just for remainder of this year.
If Butler wanted to go to Milwaukee, I'd think he'd already be here.
He's 35 years old.....how much does he have left in the tank??

Middleton is a still a serviceable player, but he's not a 35 million a year player any more. He's more of a MLE type value (10-12 million a year). He's going to opt in for 35 million next year while Butler will opt out of his 52 million (barring a major injury) and sign a 2-3 year deal somewhere else. Clearing Middleton's 35 million would be a huge break for the Bucks.
It's not going to happen anyway, but complicating all this is that Middleton is a true professional and a great teammate. If he wants, he's going to be a good coach after he retires. His number is going to be hanging in the rafters at Fiserv as he's probably the 6th-7th best player in Bucks' history (Kareem, Giannis, Moncrief, Marques, Dandridge, and Ray Allen). Jimmy Butler is a POS human being who's quit on almost every team he's ever played for.
I don't want Butler - at all, but I can see why shedding Middleton's salary is attractive for tax purposes and Butler would give them a much better chance in the playoffs.

He supposedly only wants to go to Phoenix.
In a playoff run for this year only I would take Jimmy Butler. Itβs a high risk v reward and Middleton is money in the playoffs but what are the odds he stays healthy? 50/50?
If you knew he could stay healthy obviously you keep him.
