Boykin the top #3 WR in the NFL?

Pretty sure a wise man said a few years ago that Jordy was the best receiver on the roster. That hasn't changed IMO.

As far as Boykin is concerned, IMHO he's going to keep getting better.  He was one of the unsung guys last year when Cobb was out, Jones and Jordy were playing hurt and Finley was on IR.  He made a lot of big-time catches and hopefully this year he'll have a full year of AR throwing him the ball.

Agreed, Boykin will continue to improve. What the hell is Thompson doing? Just re-loading. I also really like what I saw from Myles White and won't be surprised if he has a break-out year. He has the look of Driver part-II IMO.

You look at the other guys on that list and it's hard to argue any of them are better than Boykin. Boykin isn't a "game-breaker" like Cobb or Jordy, but he's reliable. He has great hands, he runs good routes, and he's always where he is supposed to be. It's weird to think of him as being a really good player because he isn't particularly fast and doesn't make many big plays, but you need players like Boykin to complement your big play guys. You need that guy that is good at getting open on those short and intermediate routes to set up the deeper stuff. I think it will be a seamless transition from Jones to Boykin honestly.

 

And as far as who is the #1 WR...Jordy all the way. Jordy is a complete player.

No one should forget all the crazy body torqueing toe tapping grabs Jordy has pulled in the last several years.  Dude's a Jedi near the sideline.

Pretty happy with this WR group assuming of course they stay healthy. I think the one thing we'd like to see is a burner at KR/PR. I really don't want to see Cobb out there returning kicks.

 

A young kid who can fly (this may not even be a true WR...see Shields/Woodson) that TT can grab in the lower rounds may be perfect. Dorsey or White may be that kid already but wouldn't surprise me if TT grabs another weapon besides TE in this draft.

I'm curious to see where/if  Chris Harper will fit into the Packer's receiving group this year. He was claimed late in the year last season. If he stays on the roster going into training camp he'll have a chance to get noticed. While I like some of the stuff Myles White was showing, I thought he got pushed around a bit

No it wasn't the ol' squirrelpee.    I think El-Ka said something like White looked like a scared squirrel running around out there. 

All Boykin did at VT was become the school's alltime leading WR.  If he had a better 40 time, he would have been drafted.  All the things that are mentioned, knack for getting open, running routes, etc., along with his big hands helped.  All he needed to do is learn GBs offense. Last season he got a chance to show where he is at.  I get the idea some teams will unerestimate him and get burned.  We need one of the faster guys to step up or we can expect a draft pick.  If that happens, maybe we don't need a dominant TE.  Just some good blocking TEs.  Then there would be room for some screens to RBs instead.  JST. 

The "ranking" is the writers opinion on which #3 receivers will be best for fantasy football. Because the Packers run so much 3 wide Boykin gets a high ranking by default.

Boykin might have better hands than Jones. He made some spectacular catches -- in fact, he caught everything -- last year. Only thing is he's nothing like Jones, who was physical and could take as much as he dished out. Boykin seems purely a finesse-type guy. He could be excellent for the Packers, but I wouldn't mind seeing them bring in a physical rookie WR to compete. 

Except for the 1st game he played in. Couldn't catch a cold in that one.

I think it was AR that said last year Jordy has a "halo", and if he puts the ball in that halo, he's confident he will make the catch. Or something similar.

In any case, it was high prasie and a well-deserved mention.

Yeah I wouldn't call him a finesse WR. James Jones and Jordy Nelson are very physical so I suppose compared to them he looks less than physical, but I think "finesse" is a little too far. I think his game is pretty similar to Gerg Jennings except he doesn't have the deep speed Gerg had...Boykin is a disciplined route runner, he has strong hands, and he does a good job getting YAC. He's a guy who doesn't waste opportunities, while Jordy/Cobb are getting the attention he will make himself useful. He's a good #3/4 WR and I think with a QB like Rodgers and an offense like GB's he could produce 1,000 yard season. 

Donte Moncrief, WR - Ole Miss

6'2" - 221lbs

 

STRENGTHS: Moncrief's thick frame, deceptive speed and smooth route-running make him a nightmare for cornerbacks. He does not possess the explosive moves of Southern Cal's Marqise Lee or Clemson's Sammy Watkins but might be a better player than either of them. He is sudden in his breaks, showing the ability to generate separation even against tight man coverage, and accelerates quickly, often leaving defenders in his dust on double-moves. Moncrief tracks the ball well and generally shows excellent hands (one drop vs. Texas), as well as the body control to make the dazzling grab. Moncrief is also cognizant in the running game, showing awareness and toughness as a downfield blocker

 

WEAKNESSES: Perhaps the only thing standing in Moncrief's way of becoming the first "skill-position" player from Mississippi to earn a first round draft selection since Eli Manning (No. 1 overall, 2004) is the question about his straight-line speed. Moncrief was not caught from behind on tapes viewed but the big-bodied receiver may not possess elite timed speed.

Moncrief is a game breaker, I'd love to see him in GB. I know Pittsburgh has shown a lot of interest in him. Kevin Colbert and Ted Thompson seem to think alike on a lot of things (drafting, team building, etc.) so if Pittsburgh is interested I think it's reasonable to think GB might also have interest.

I think TT would find Moncrief a bit too old. 

My only point was that Boykin doesn't break many tackles. But I think my original statement labeling him "purely a finesse-type guy" came off harsher than intended. I'd still like to see them add a big, physical receiver -- that guy Moncrief sounds interesting. 

I'd like them to get a guy who can get down the field in a hurry, as well as catch the ball. I realize those guys are rare, but Jordy's speed won't last forever and I remember when Jordy went down we had no one to help stretch the field and AR took a beating as everyone took away all the shorter stuff. So, some guy with speed who can take a year to learn and fill in if needed this year, and if he's capable, return punts/kicks this year. Kind of like how Patterson worked out for the Queens; we probably won't get a threat of his caliber, but TT seems to unearth quality WRs.

I was surprised how good Boykin was after the very rough first game.  I'll call him a poor man's Cris Carter.  He's not as good as Carter of course but he has a simliar style of play where he's quick enough to get open despite lacking speed and his hands and body control are very solid.

Does he push off as well as Cris Carter as well?

Only Michael Irvin is in that class.
